Recent visit to the West Kempsey Hotel, very disappointed in service and menu. Salt and pepper squid, we had to pick up at the same time as the main course,
Barring that the salt and pepper squid had freezer taste, had no salt and pepper taste, very bland.
Meanwhile main course became cold and unappetising. We used to frequent this pub, not anymore. We will support our local cafe's.

Lunch today at the West Kempsey Hotel, our rating 2 very poor.
We are visitor's to Kempsey & read up on the reviews. We both had Lamb Cutlets, the 2 Cutlets were very small dry, and the vegetables were waterlogged and the mash potatoes lumpy were very very dry. Must have been the chef's day off. For $58 it just wasn't good enough to serve someone & I would not recommend eating here from our experience today.

From the outside, it looks like your everyday north coast hotel..but look inside, you will see a modern tab setup, and a huge bistro( with fantastic food)...throw in a huge mixture of beers on tap , and you have a fantastic hotel, for a must visit on your next north cost trip😊

Steak cooked as I asked, medium rare. Vegetables well cooked and so fresh and a decent serve. Only negative is the kitchen doesn't open on Mondays.

Great spot for lunch, or a catch-up over a drink or two (or 3 , or 4 etc.). Usual beers on tap, cocktails and mixed drinks available.
The food available from the restaurant is exceptional. I have been many times, and have never been disappointed by the meals available. The menu changes specials routinely. The Chef and his small team do a fantastic job of delivering high quality fresh cooked meals in a timely fashion.
The 2022 refurbishment of the Hotel Main Bar, Bistro, and outdoor entertainment area are top notch and have improved the overall feel, look and general aesthetic of "the Top Pub", as it is more commonly known to locals of the Macleay Valley.

It doesn't leave a good impression when you make a deal about charging us for sauce but not the family after?

We come here at least once a week and spend close to $200 each time.

I might suggest you tell chef in white shirt to change their attitude towards regular customers.

Loved this old pub. It has been updated inside but still keeps the country pub feel. Looks like many locals use it which is a good indication.
The staff are mostly young females and all really helpful and happy. Especially helpful was Amy at the bar. She looks like she has a great personality and was getting on famously with all. Mingling with the customers.
Considering they had a group of 75 people celebrating a birthday our good order was filled extremely quickly. Very surprised and happy. Meals are generous and reasonably priced. Would 100% recommend this place. Has a great outdoor area for get togethers as well
