Stayed for 2 nights with our 2 teen daughters. Everything was good. It was touching to see that special care had been taken to make things just right. Dated, yes, but clean, well-supplied and everything working properly. Considering the age and amenities it's not what you would call a bargain at $90 a night but we didn't have the energy/time to keep looking. The one review talks about good breakfast; we were not aware there was a breakfast offered.

The appartment was great , well equipped kitchen, clean & tidy! Yes it was dated, but everything worked, we were at the front but didnt find it noisy. 4 of us sharing , plenty of hot water for showers, managers great, helpful & friendly. We got value for money & would quite happily stay again 🙂

As states; Holiday Units. I expected their to be daily or weekly cleaners.
On one occasion of our stay at the Villa there was no towels.
On another occasion there was constantly arguments going on in and out of the complex.
One pool is only available, not one dryer at the premises works.
We weren't refunded what we put into the machines and honestly not worried about that.
Other then noticing one of the receptionist kicking in what looked like a disabled mans room, they seemed like nice people.
Being a music artist myself, local to Cairns, from Sydney, also an age and youth carer,
Afew other things were horrifiing to see....

We stayed here for two nights either side of our road trip to Cooktown and found the accommodation satisfactory for our needs and is only 5 kms from the airport. The unit was clean and all the usual motel needs provided, however, it is dated but that did not worry us. There is an outdoor pool and ample parking. There is a bus stop right outside the property if you do not want the hassle of parking down around the wharf when going on sea trips. David, the Manager, was friendly and helpful.

upon arrival door was kicked in and being replaced. no power points, first night there was bangs throughout the night and people screaming, flashlights shining through my window roaming the apartment for hours around midnight. woke up to cockroaches everywhwre and bugs crawling up the drain. nothings clean. dirty scour to clean dishes and not many dishes or cooking appliances. layout is very bad and only supply bar fridge and stove from the 1800’s.

After a very bad day, and in a very bad mood checked in to the first place we came across. The receptionist was friendly, thoughtful. gave us weary travellers menu's, good advise, and with a hit of humourer changed our attitudes. ||||She was the best thing about the place. The room was basic and clean, the carpet was well past it's used by date.||||I would have paid more for an upgraded room.

We stayed for 8 nights and wouldn't return, it is just too basic with little or no maintenance. The units really need to be stripped and refurbished and outfitted with someone that is actually pleased to see you. The chap who appeared to be in charge needs a personality transplant, gave us the impression that he doesn't want to be there and couldn't care less if you stayed or not anyway. Whole impression is that this Villa Shangri-La looks to be very third world standard, do not expect a palace!||Positives are that the unit is roomy, the pool is well maintained, great off road parking and the bed is comfortable.||On the other hand owners have dogs that bark every time someone arrives or departs, the TV is not huge and the old fashioned sort. The cooker looks like it has seen better days but is functional. Washing machine and dryer look like old rust buckets and $3 each for a load to wash another $3 to dry if you want to take the risk. Went down to the office to pay for a washing load and get some powder for machine; no washing powder available and it is an extra cost. Aircon only in bedroom and too noisy to run overnight but then I guess this is a cost saving strategy?

I figured the 2 year old review posted here would have been outdated and all the complaints would be fixed - but nope, it's all true. We rented 2 units for 10 people, and both places stunk so bad after a few days. We couldn't even open the windows because they had been screwed shut. The aircon wasn't working, and the fans do nothing - the place really stinks. There is no microwave which is a huge negative. The sink in our room was leaking water all the time no matter what we could do. The staff aren't too friendly (at least, compared to the rest of Cairns) and got quite upset with us coming back at 2AM making a lot of noise (admittedly that is our fault), so keep that in mind if you choose to stay here. Would not recommend at all.
