Room was very clean and beds comfortable. Maintenance needed in the grounds. Stairs narrow and unsafe. We didn't feel particularly safe among some of the other guests and surrounded by barbed wire fences.
If you only need a comfortable, clean room this is good. As a holiday destination spending time by the pool and at the motel, this is not for you.

Awesome location a block back from the esplanade, only 25ish minute walk into the city. Super chill vibe, staff were nice and the room was great, let us leave suitcases at reception before check-in as we got to Cairns at 8am. Insane value for money compared to most other places in/around Cairns CBD would deffo stay here again, rooms were looked after really well.

Okay so a budget hotel however many issues.
1. Not too thrilled about the brown 'gift' left in our toilet after the room was 'cleaned'.
2. It would have been nice to know when booking that there were renovations happening although judging by the status of the wonky stairs etc, it has been like that for a while.
3. If the residents - and there appear to be long term residents at the hotel - have a 'mishap' with blood being left behind, hot tip: wash it away so other guests don't see it.

We have no words…
One of the rooms we were given had a double and single. The single bed was so squashed and was right against the wall/ curtains. The room had an extreme animal urine smell. It was absolutely feral. It flared my asthma up significantly. We felt unsafe, the permanent residents whistling at us as we walked in. We got back after dinner and the place was not well lit. Aircon was not effective at all. Curtains stained and stunk of cigarette. Showers/ bathrooms has mould.

Basic rooms with basic kitchenette. Fridge, microwave, toaster. Not an apartment.

We stayed here 2 nights after arriving to Australia. The hotel is very near the airport and in reasonable walking distance to the esplanada. The room had a good size but other than that it was in a rough condition. It seemed clean but needs some renovation||Free parking was nice. The Wi-Fi was not so good in our room, not good for streaming and did cut out oftenly

We stayed here for a stopover before flying out of Cairns with a young family.

I experienced great service from the staff on site but there were some major drawbacks that led me to recommend not staying here until addressed by the owner.

Rooms:
- Very dark, old and tired rooms, well established black mould in showers, caked on dust over fans / fixtures / side lamps, barely hanging together cabinetry, light fixtures that did not work / blown globes, no working fan in bathroom without windows (ceiling mould), fan detached from ceiling, internal lock unable to operate with key, and air conditioners that I do not think have ever been cleaned due to the smells emitted from both (health concern).

Security:
From our experience, I suggest not staying here with young children. However, I will note that you are locked in at night and able to exit/enter but cannot drive the car in after 10pm.

I book budget rooms for my guys at work and I would have no hesitation booking them into Tropical Queenslander. Coming from the other side of Aus, communication with the staff was great in the lead up to my stay. I had a ground floor room with private outside area backing on to the pool. My room was spacious, clean and came with Tv, Micro, Kettle, Toaster, Iron and Ironing board, Hair dryer, Broom, Dust Pan, Lounge and a comfy Queen bed. The bathroom could do with a little TLC but honestly I have seen way worse. The water pressure was fabulous and heated quick. Location is perfect and easy to get around.
I would definitely recommend this motel to anyone.
Thank you Tropical Queenslander!
