Times Past Bed & Breakfast - Milton, New South Wales

My girlfriend and I booked a table at Rick Stein's restaurant at Bannisters on a Saturday night in early April 2011, but were unable to get a room at the Bannisters hotel complex, which was booked out, or anywhere in nearby Mollymook and Ulladulla (mostly due to the fact that we were only planning to stay for one night - most hotels in the area require a 2 night minimum stay). Turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to us as we wouldn't have come across this little gem in Milton. Although Milton is a bit further from the coast than we were initially looking, it is a far more pleasant area to stay in than Mollymook and Ulladulla. It is a delightful village with some nice arts and craft shops and a couple of very popular local pubs and cafe-restaurants. ||||Times past is a wonderful B&B in a nicely preserved, old fashioned cottage that is clean and spotless while maintaining all of the original features. You could not have wished for nicer hosts than the owners, Louise and Trevor, who were very welcoming and even drove us to Bannisters to save us getting a taxi. Included in the room rate was a healthy breakfast of cereal, toast, coffee/tea, juice and a generous fresh fruit platter, all of which I was very grateful for after over-indulging at Rick Stein's the night before. ||||I would highly recommend that visitors to the area choose this excellent B&B, which is fantastic value compared to the hotels and motels in nearby Mollymook and Ulladulla and offers an authentic country experience.

We stayed two nights at Times Past and couldn't be happier with our choice of accommodation. |We had room 2 which was large, very clean and comfortable, and more luxurious than we were expecting. |Choccies, soft fluffy towels and a special soap was a very nice touch as well. ||Breakfast was an amazing fruit platter, muesli, yoghurt, toast, juice, tea and coffee.|For anyone concerned about noise from the highway - I think I noticed one truck the whole time. It's only 2 minutes walk into Milton town for cafes, restaurants and shops, and 5 minutes walk down the hill to St Isidore for a special meal.|Louise and Trevor are very friendly and helpful hosts with great local knowledge and tips. Stay here! I highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.

It was our second visit to "Times Past" in the lovely little town of Milton. And it won't be our last, either. There are two tastefully decorated rooms with a shared walk-on balcony, that's a perfect spot to enjoy a nightcap at the end of a busy day spent exploring the local area and/or surfing, fishing, playing golf, boating, shopping, dining, veging out... (Let's face it, there's a myriad of ways to occupy yourself in this part of the world.)|And "Times Past" is a great place to stay. On both occasions, we (my sister & I and our partners) stayed two nights - with the place to ourselves. Louise and Trevor are excellent hosts. They provide a sumptuous Continental breakfast and give advice when needed, yet are never intrusive. It truly is a fabulous B&B for that weekend escape and it's particularly perfect for two couples, who know one another. Highly recommended.

What a delight to stay at such a wonderful bed and breakfast. Louise and Trevor have a wonderful home that provides old fashioned luxury along with old fashioned service. They really know what it takes to run an excellent bed and breakfast. Nothing but quality from start to finish. A very friendly welcome and tour. Beautifully appointed rooms and a very comfortable bed. Everything that any traveler would need was provided and was top quality. Breakfast was a feast for the eyes and the stomach. The whole place felt comfortable and welcoming. The verandah was the highlight of the place, sitting and watching the enormous fig tree in the adjacent park was a perfect way to wind down from the trip. This place is obviously the result of good planning, tasteful decisions, quality spending and a lot of hard work. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Would recommend this place to anyone for an overnight or a long stay, you will not be disappointed.

This is an excellent place to stay in the Milton/Ulladulla region on the Illawarra/Shoalhaven coast of New South Wales, if character counts and you are a couple(s) without kids. Times Past b & b is situated in a charming weatherboard cottage, heritage-listed and a former dairy-farm homestead, originally built in 1890, with a stunning circa 180-year old fig tree on the boundary. It is adjacent to a nice little park, and the property has lovely uninterrupted views to the Budawang Range. Times Past is on the outskirts of the village of Milton, yet is walking distance to Milton's boutique shops and cafes, a renowned antique store, and a very good restaurant (I don't mean Bannisters). To my mind, Milton is more attractive and less commercial than Mogo or Kangaroo Valley, and has a well-nurtured historical background dating from 1828. Back at the b & b, there are two tastefully decorated (barely a doily in sight) and comfortable, clean and thoughtfully provided-for Queen rooms, sharing a private verandah; and each has a spacious ensuite with a bath (one slightly larger). As well, there is a private kitchenette nook for tea/coffee (and sneaky late-night indulgences). A 'continental' breakfast is offered each morning - including a generous fresh fruit platter, yoghurt, cereal, toast and plunger coffee - in a cosy lounge/dining area. Louise and Trevor live on site but are the perfect hosts: friendly, relaxed, and discreet. They are there for you if you wish (Trevor is knowledgeable about fishing and beach spots), but otherwise you are free to carry out a peacefully separate existence. Other than that, it should be borne in mind that this is an authentically old cottage, and while the rooms are delightfully light and airy, one of them might get a bit warm in high summer; and both of them open out towards the nearby busy Princes Highway. A bypass of Milton is mooted but until that happens, if you are a light sleeper, consider bringing earplugs. And since there are gaps under and above doors etc., there is also the potential for creepy South Coast wildlife to make an unwelcome appearance. Our hosts thoughtfully provide door 'snakes' and a tin of repellant but, in summer in particular, mozzies and large huntsman spiders are a possibility (we had both). If in doubt, just bring someone to deal with them.

What a lucky find! Our room was old world charming with lovely luxury touches; Rituelle soap and spare super fluffy towels, Lindt chocolates, a fragrant candle in the bathroom, and the continental breakfast was superb - extremely generous fruit plate including fresh raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, mango cheeks etc, really good quality whole grain bread to toast, all presented on a beautifully laid table. We felt thoroughly pampered and highly recommend Times Past.
