Thousand Lakes Lodge is one of the most relaxing places I've ever stayed. Tucked away in the remote Central Plateau of Tasmania, it's not your typical tourist destination—this is a place to truly unwind, refresh, and reconnect with nature.
Even though the weather wasn’t ideal during my visit, it actually made the experience even more peaceful. The warm atmosphere indoors, combined with the remote setting, made for a perfect retreat. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, adding to the calm and comforting vibe of the place.
A special compliment to the chef—the food was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed every meal during my stay, and it was clear that great care and skill went into each dish. Dining here was a real pleasure.
Do keep in mind that the lodge is located in a protected area, so there are certain guidelines about where you can go and what you can do. But that’s part of what makes it so special—this is a place where nature is respected and preserved.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking quiet comfort, great food, and a deep sense of peace.

We loved our stay at the Lodge. It was a wonderful experience and we will return. Bec was so welcoming as was Jill, letting us know the run of the place and ordering meals.||As a big fan of wilderness places but with comfort, the Lodge is ideal. Large spaces with comfortable cosy couches meant you can interact with others or keep to yourself. Huge windows draw your eyes constantly to the out doors where there is always an animal or two or three to see! This is a protected place and must be treated as such. Bec has a wealth of knowledge and passion about the Plateau.||Our food was most enjoyable with a good range to choose from. Our room was beautifully clean bed comfy and cosy. We got the last room available and although we had our own bathroom it was down the hall. Dressing gowns provided. This is due to the layout limits of the building that used to be an Antartic training centre. Fear not if you get in early there are en suite rooms!||We explored lakes, hiked a little, had a picnic at Iibotts hut by the lake, relaxed with books, chatted to other guests from all over. I could have done with another couple of nights but alas had to return home.||Thank you to Bec, Jill and the other young lass, sorry didn't get your name, our stay was magical and very much needed.

Absolutely stunning place to stay. Would strongly recommend coming here if you want to experience untouched nature and visit a unique place where the land is very much for the animals and humans are guests. We were well looked after and for the guests who respect the environment and animals, Beck really goes above and beyond! The food is fantastic, the lodge is clean, warm and modern. Beck has so much knowledge of the area. She'll get you on fantastic walks, some easy, some hard if you are looking for a true wilderness experience. She knows so much about the animals and also got us out to a good location for the southern lights

Tip: take red lamps so you can navigate the dark or see animals without scaring them

This is a wonderfully comfortable lodge located in an unique landscape of alpine vegetation and native wildlife. We stayed two nights and it exceeded our expectations in all respects. The lodge is expertly managed by the wonderful Bec who was so generous in sharing her knowledge and experience of the Central Plateau and she recommended hiking trails and areas to view the wildlife and experience the silence of the lakes. The lodge is so warm and comfortable and has two communal rooms with front row seats to the nightly animal parade outside. All the food was delicious and dining with other guests was a delight. Our room was clean, warm and the bed so comfortable. This is a special kind of place, very remote and fragile, come to appreciate the amazing ecosystems of the alpine central plateau!

We recently stayed at Thousand Lakes lodge to kick off our Honeymoon in Tasmania. From the moment we walked in to the lodge, we felt comfortable and at home. Bec was incredibly welcoming and her knowledge and passion of the plateau and conservation of the bush was apparent. The lodge is absolutely stunning and surrounded by so many animals we were lucky to see throughout the day and night. Even at the end of our stay, Bec took the time to offer us information about what else we could see and helped us plan our next adventures towards the coast. I know we and many others lucky enough to stay here - past and future, appreciate the genuine connection and care Bec has for her guests.

We also had the pleasure of a guided day trout fishing with Pete who was absolutely amazing! His knowledge of the lakes and the surrounding area meant we got to learn so much about fishing, nature and the animals we came across. We got to see parts of the plateau/Lakes we wouldn’t have got to explore otherwise and by the end of the day, he felt like a mate we’d known for years! Cheers Pete for an awesome day fishing.

Thanks again Bec and team for an amazing stay, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin our celebration and will definitely be back in the years to come.

This was my second time at the lodge, came up with friends after staying here with my partner last year.it truly is a special place, rooms are spotless, the communal areas are comfortable and spacious. The host Bec is very knowledgeable and very friendly and happy to help you plan to do as much or as little as you please.|We went hiking, had a picnic, star gazed and saw some incredible wild life. We also just sat around in our pyjamas and read our books . This is a remote and wild environment but the lodge provides a welcome refuge at the end of a long day meandering the vast network of trails. I can’t wait to get back again, it was truly peaceful and a wonderful place to get away from technology and have recharge from a busy work schedule. Definitely book at least 2 nights to appreciate the care and professionalism from the staff into ensuring the stay is what you want it to be. Thanks again Bec and team

We had an amazing few days off the grid exploring the wonderful landscape of the Central Plateau of Tasmania thanks to 1000 Lakes Lodge. The accommodation and meals were above our expectations and Bec went way above and beyond. She's so generous with her time, knowledge and skills (including taking aurora photos for us!) We were given delicious picnic lunches as we explored the local walks, and the gorgeous shack on the secluded beach. The wild animals and landscape are so well respected and taken care of for us all to enjoy. This stay was an unexpected highlight to our trip. Highly recommend a visit. We'll definitely be back!
