We had high hopes for Woodbridge Inn, an historic property in the charming town of New Norfolk. Unfortunately, the experience fell short, definitely not 5 star.

We booked a room with access to the private reading room and “ballroom,” which were nice, but the room itself had several issues—dusty toilets, bugs in the bathroom, and used soap tubs and shower gel left behind from previous guests. The quilt was dusty, and it felt like the rooms hadn’t been refreshed for some time.

We paid $1300 for two nights for one room, which felt like a rip-off given the level of quality received.

The continental breakfast offered a selection of cold meats and bread, but the bread was stale, and the overall selection felt quite basic. The cereal also seemed stale, and the “fresh” nuts and seeds tasted old and dry, which suggested they had been packaged well beyond their intended freshness.

On the second day, we requested scrambled eggs as the only option, given the unappetizing nature of the previous day’s spread. However, we were informed that scrambled eggs were unavailable, which was disappointing and left us with no alternative and we decided to bring our own breakfast the next day.

Laurel was lovely and did try her best to accommodate, but the place definitely needs a bit of a refresh.

Given the price, we had high expectations, but they were sorely disappointed.

Overall, I’d rate my stay 1 star—for the location, the historic site, and Laurel’s efforts. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn’t live up to the “luxury” promised, especially in terms of service and amenities.

Woodbridge was the perfect location and accommodation for our quick 3 night stay. A beautiful and sensitive renovation of this old lady. We felt we had the house to ourselves and enjoyed all the property has to offer. Our second stay at Woodbridge and the warm welcome and concierge service went above and beyond as was our previous experience. We could have cooked up a storm in the kitchen / dining had we chosen to but found local offerings were adequate. As we explored Hobart and the natural beauty of the hinterland the location was key for us. The house is spectacular, we will stay again.

Our second honeymoon stay. Let me say what an absolutely pleasure it was staying at woodbridge. We stayed in the Academy room. The owners were amazing and we loved hearing from about the history of the building. It was all furnished beautifully and we adored the art and antiques.

The Woodbridge is a heritage listed Georgian mansion, built in 1825 and beautifully restored in 2005 by the delightful hosts, Laurelle and John. It's situated on the River Derwent and within walking distance of all that New Norfolk offers. The rooms are large and comfortable and there are lovely beautifully furnished guest lounges and a well equipped kitchen. Highly recommend it!!

Woodbridge Inn is a remarkable old property located in the beautiful town of New Norfolk. We had high hopes when we saw that the images on the website matched the facade of this old home. Unfortunately that’s where the experience peaked. As we were greeted on arrival, we were advised we were the first guests since their winter shut down. And you could tell. We had booked three rooms for two nights; all three rooms had stale water left in the coffee pod machines from summer. The toilets were dirty and filled with dust. There were also bugs and hairs in “the academy” bathroom. One of the rooms linen smelt so strongly of moth balls, it was near impossible to sleep in. When we went to get the quilt out of the box to put on the bed (yes the bed was just made with sheets), the quilt was stained so we didn’t use it. It was although the rooms were cleaned at the end of summer and weren’t refreshed for their reopening. Whilst we loved the concept of the shared kitchen space with other guests, it felt unclean - the tables in there were dirty and in need of a deep clean, as was the glassware for the honesty bar. If you’re planning on staying here, we’d advise to look elsewhere for food. We wouldn’t describe the experience as “luxury”.

Laurelle and her staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. On arrival we were warmly greeted at the front gate by the concierge who then gave us a tour through the mansion before showing us to our room. A superbly renovated historic mansion that pleasantly caters to modern tastes with modern facilities.
Dinner and breakfast in The Pavilion couldn't have been better. The food was delicious. I could have sat there all day looking out at the river through the leaves of the 150-year-old elm tree.
A perfect place to slip away from the hustle and bustle and unwind for a weekend. We were blessed beyond words to stay in such a beautiful place.
Thank you, Laurelle and John, for sharing your mansion with us.

I would recommend a stay at The Woodbridge for lots of reasons. The warm welcome, the beautiful setting, the comfortable rooms with amazing views. We chose it for its proximity to The Agrarian Kitchen where we were doing a class and it was a lovely stroll back, instead of a drive back to Hobart after wine. John, owner of The Woodbridge even jumped in his car and drove us there in the morning. If I’d planned better I would’ve stayed longer and explored the area more. Walks by the Derwent and other local attractions were not given the attention they deserved.
I think The Woodbridge would be lovely in all seasons and Laurel and John, the owners are very knowledgeable about the area.

As a returning guest at the Woodbridge, I’d highly recommend this small luxury hotel. Nestled by the picturesque Derwent River it’s the perfect getaway to relax and unwind. The hotel itself is steeped in history, surrounded by beautiful gardens and an amazing view. You feel instantly at home with inviting rooms which are comfortable and clean. Breakfast and our evening meal was delicious! |Woodbridge definitely meets my five star rating! Thank you Laurelle and John, and to your outstanding staff for always making our stays memorable. We’ll definitely be back again!
