The room was great – thoughtfully designed to maximise space. Loads of places for storage: wardrobe, a wall unit with shelves and drawers, and a long, very useful counter plus desk. The bed was very comfortable, so too the armchair, and the balcony had a nice view. The lighting is well placed for reading and there are plenty of power points. Bar and restaurant in the adjoining building and the Curtin shops next door. Overall, spacious, comfortable and convenient.

After a strong start, following their renovations, it's all gone to pot over the last few weeks!

We used to consider ourselves regulars, dining in a few times a week. Whilst we're pleased to hear your hotel guests are enjoying the new menu, the word on the street is your regular locals are not. For us, it's time to find a new local.

Guys, you've really broken what used to be a great pub and dining experience!

Please read.

General review:
- Thin walls, can hear every word of the neighbours
- No microwave or many facilities in the room at all
- Checking in can take a lot of time. Not knowing which entrance to use, or where your room is, and signage is confusing. The staff around often help with this and can be lovely! But the overall design and setup isn’t great.

Onto the worst bit:
My partner and I stayed here for two nights last year. I had wisdom teeth surgery so I brought soup with me whilst he ate from the restaurant attached to the hotel. Worst food poisoning I’ve ever seen in my life. We ended up calling an ambulance and to this day, almost a year later, he is still seeing doctors regarding issues from it.

I would never, ever stay here again. I just sincerely hope no one else has such an awful experience as we did. ?

Great food & drinks. Wood fire Pork shoulder was yummy, my wife had the Snapper she enjoyed it too. Would suggest to have some salad or veg with the Snapper & Pork Shoulder. Staff were lovely.

Ballot Box cafe inside the Statesman Hotel.
$12 for two slices of raisin toast. Supermarket quality. No prices on display. Had to check it wasn’t a mistake when it was brought to our table. Staff suggested I provide feedback to management in an hour when they get in.

Well renovated, "The Statto" was once a little rough but is now a very pleasant visitor experience. The bar serves the popular brews at a good price and the pie I had for dinner is seriously one of the best pies I've had in recent experience. A great place for a light dinner and a chat. Will go there again. I didn't try the rooms.

Special shout out to the Policy and their lovely kitchen staff. The chicken wings were cooked to perfection and the cauliflower florets were the best we’ve had. The Chef in particular was very committed and understanding of my wife’s dietary requirements. As she is celiac they took extra precautions to try to avoid cross contamination. Overall would recommend to locals and folks passing through Canberra.
