The Star Grand Hotel and Residences certainly has the potential to impress, but my recent experience left me questioning its 5-star rating. Upon booking, I was promised a 25% discount off the best available rate, quoted at $518, meaning the rate should have been around $388.50. However, I was ultimately charged $486 plus an additional $40 for parking. Their website stated $518 with no discount code, but also showed a promotional rate of $492. Despite this, I received only a $6 discount off their special rate, effectively just a 5% reduction. When I called to clarify, I was informed that their "normal" rate was actually $600 plus and that the $486 charge reflected a fluctuating discounted rate not visible on the site. This inconsistent pricing left me feeling misled and frustrated.
On arrival, I found the hotel difficult to navigate, with no clear signs directing guests to the lobby. However, the room itself was comfortable and well-appointed, as expected from a 5-star establishment, and room service was both prompt and efficient. Surprisingly, there were no hard copy materials in the room to guide guests to hotel amenities like the restaurant—a small but notable detail that could enhance the guest experience.
The biggest setback was a fire alarm that went off in the middle of the night. Though I immediately called reception for assurance, and was told it was a false alarm, the incident left me uneasy for the remainder of my stay. During checkout, there was no acknowledgment or apology for this disruption. In a premium hotel, a sincere apology would have been appropriate and appreciated.
Overall, The Star Grand Hotel has luxurious rooms and responsive room service, but the confusing pricing, lack of in-room information, and oversight regarding guest comfort following the fire alarm detracted from the experience. For a hotel that aspires to 5-star standards, a more transparent booking process and attentive customer service would go a long way.

We stayed here with our toddler. It was pretty decent value for money with the package we got which included parking, breakfast and dining credits. The option we chose wasn't great for a toddler, so if we were to stay here again we'd either upgrade or leave the toddler at home with Nana. Service was great and we really can't fault the place.

Nice rooms in the residences. Definitely feel like they used to be actual apartments. Nice views on the darling harbour side (but note it’s not the actual harbour. No bridge views etc)
The layout of the hotel is so spread it, it’s rather frustrating. Once checked in it’s a long walk to the lifts and there’s many lifts that aren’t actually able to take you up to the room levels. Need better signage.
Check in staff were helpful but the wait is long. And the check in process takes a very long time. Rather peculiar.
If you’re here to see a show or gamble, great location. But as a base for exploring Sydney city, hard pass. It’s a bit of a cultural and dining waste land.

Attended a work function and the facilities were excellent. Signage to the specific room/area was good. Good security procedures in place to ensure only our colleagues attended. Well planned catered event with ample drinks and canapes.

We stayed in The Star Grand hotel in November 2024 to celebrate my daughter's birthday. It was surprised how friendly was receptionist Sheena, she upgraded our room to 2 bedroom apartment and congratulate with birthday to my daughter. We got the room straight after check in. The apartment was super clean, with balcony, microwave, complimentary coffee, tea and bottles of water. If I had options I would give them 6 stars for everything.
After that we went to casino to register and got a membership card very quick, no problems at all. Thanks to Jinny Service Host, she was super professional and friendly. 5 minutes and we got a card. Only be ready to have with you passport and driving license.
Casino is big enough but no winnings like in many other casinos, if you want to lose money go for it. Casino provides free instant coffee and tea for patrons, free drinking water fountain.
We had lunch in Fat Noodle inside casino. It was quiet expensive but food was super tasty.
In the evening we had dinner in Cusina Porto outside of casino in The Star complex. Italian pizza was good, calamari salad tasty as well. I recommend this restaurant.
6 AM we went to swimming pool and young security guard No 28 helped us to find the way there. I can say that security guards are very friendly in The Star, no issues. Many of them even asked us if we enjoy staying in The Star complex.
I recommend Cherry Bar for drinks. Young bartender made good cocktails for us, gave to us free snacks and glasses of water. The atmosphere in Cherry Bar is very romantic, good music.
Check out was very quick, no problems. I didn't see any angry workers in The Star complex, I didn't see any problems during our stay there.
After check out we left our bags on hotel reception, went to casino, had lunch and picked the bags later without any problems.
I can strongly recommend to have with you passport, driving license and dress code should be smart casual. If you respect casino rules, they will respect you.

Unfortunately, I can't give 0 stars. Me and my family stayed in a 3 bedroom suite for 4 nights and it was nothing short of a horrible experience. I don't know how this dump is a "5 star hotel". Would have been better to stay in a motel. We had 3 towels in the room when we arrived, and it we stayed on the phone to reception for over 1 hour on hold to ask for more towels so we can shower. Housekeeping wouldn't pick up the phone.. but reception isn't going to pick up for over 1 hour?absolute joke! The microwave didn't work either so once we got a hold of reception, the guy was rude and was very unprofessional in how he was speaking. He sent someone up with another microwave and no towels after waiting 30 minutes. Called again and then had the towels brought up to our room. All up, it was 2 hours to get some towels. The room is absolutely disgusting and shouldn't be operational.. there was cockroaches EVERYWHERE. We constantly had to keep an eye out for them. On the coach.. the dining table, walls, ceiling and they would fall off the ceiling constantly near us.. then when we would complain about it, the receptionist was not only unprofessional, she wouldn't apologise, move us to another room or give us a refund! She made me feel like I'm a nuisance complaining about all the cockroaches in the room.. there are so many little cockroaches so they must be breeding in there. Absolutely disgusting place and disgusting behaviour from so called employees. Spend $1500 a night to be in Absolute filth and receive 0 stars service. Also, watch out for the drunks that might stay above you because they throw beer cans over the balcony onto yours.. hopefully it doesn't hit you on the head while you are on your balcony!

Staff were very polite and friendly but the front desk staff gave you no detail. The biggest problem that we had was that we had no idea that we had to push a button to have our room serviced. No one advised us about this. There was no room compendium with any details. rooms are large, very clean.
The biggest issue is that the pillow top they have on top of the mattresses aren't as big as the mattress itself, so very uncomfortable. Also, the linen is not large enough for the bed. It doesn't tuck under the mattress, maybe due to the pillow top..

Lights would come on at random times in the morning. Reported it the first day and nothing was done. Reported it each day we stayed and still nothing done, resulting in a extra long weekend with minimal sleep.
Room size was good, but the cleanliness was shocking. The towels provided were like rags
