Stayed here for 2 nights. For what you pay it's very good. The room and kitchen is a bit outdated but that kind of adds to the experience. plus you can cook your own food there. Staff here are all so nice, happy and friendly.

Restaurant I ate the Portuguese half chicken. It's literally half a chicken. Was really nice and filling could easily have shared it with someone. But I'm on holidays.

Beer prices are very good also.. it's a proper bar with locals and gambling. I'll be back..

A wonderful experience at shortland hotel tonight, food was beautiful and Sam and Will the bar staff were amazing. You guys are what will make us come back. Your friendless and professionalism were outstanding. Thanks for a great night.

Ate at the bistro with my family for my wife's birthday. We got Mega-schnitzels in a 2-for deal. The meal was amazing, including the kid's schnitzel and "nuggets". The staff were accommodating and very friendly while the bistro itself contained many seating areas, all with their own individual settings. Quite a great place for a great feed in a smaller town.

People traveled miles for a birthday function booked here..No food was at all eatable. Food sent back left right and centre. Who ever was cooking had no clue as to how to cook anything
Much thanks to the lovely lady who refunded our money. But you can NEVER Compensate for a ruined birthday. A trashed experience. People from 90+ years to 2 year Olds....
Everyone lost. NEVER go to this place. A massive minus 5 stars with a report to the health department. Take that 1 Star and remove seven more. The worst place ever.

One of the WORST dining experiences of my entire life, avoid this restaurant at all costs!! Not only was the food bland, tasteless, oily and COLD. The plate and utensils were literally dirty. The floor was also dirty, the toilets were dirty. There are clearly no cleaning standards being upheld here. When complaining about my food politely to the kitchen, the waitresses and the chefs were completely disinterested. I noticed the chef get angry at the waitress when she did let him know, I could barely see him behind the counter, so must have little man syndrome. When ordering a cocktail from the bar it was basically just sugar, the bar staff seemed like they hated their jobs. Such a weird vibe in the place too, full of creatures. Never coming back.

Double Angus burger is awesome, best bet to come on wednesdays when it's cheaper, double patty tomato and lettuce, with a side of beer batter chips.

The Shortland Hotel hosted a South African night when South Africa played the Wallabies. We paid $80p/p to attend but man was it worth it. They served real South African dishes. They served 5 entries, 5 Main dishes with salads and 3 desserts. The big surprise was that every person at every table received 1 each of all the foods that were served. We ate until we rolled. The food was delicious!!!! The atmosphere electric and the rugby superb. What a treat!!! We’ll be back.

Literally the worst food I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant. The menu is basically a joke and absolutely everything we ordered was disappointing especially with the price of everything. Every time we’ve tried to eat here thinking the food would improve we end up disappointed. Even the milk shakes taste like water ? Sort out the kitchen because there’s no pride being put in to the food whatsoever.
