Can't comment on rooms so difficult to review and gave it a five. After fighting off the plague of locusts to get across the road this was a wonderful pub. The front bar is old and nostalgic and clean. I had a BLT as a snack. It was not snack size, it was large. There was a bistro area and outdoor area a magnificent pub. The pub does have accommodation which we didn't use. This has a great pub vibe, back to the old days. Would come again and would stay here next time.

What a shame…heading through Bourke with friends we thought we would stop for a counter lunch. What a cute hotel. There were 6 of us but we had our two dogs with us. Lovely beer garden out the back….but no dogs allowed. Went to sit in a shady spot on the front veranda but told we can’t sit there either with the dogs. Was directed to a full sun table on the veranda…and it was a warm day. There were no patrons in the hotel…inside or outside ? so we decided to give the pub a miss and head up to the bakery…wow the bakery was packed and I had the best burger ever…meant to be. Just seems a shame, when as a tourist you want to support country towns and pubs. Well the bakery got our business.

The owner of this property helped us out when our accommodation fell through. We were travelling as a large family group and he was incredibly hospitable and accommodating - finding us all rooms at very short notice. The hotel is in the process of being done up. The rooms were basic but clean and tidy with air conditioning. The kids in our group had a ball both nights playing on the play equipment out the back and playing handball with the other kids visiting the hotel. The staff could not have been more accommodating - storing birthday cakes etc in the cool room for us and happily refunding our third night when we needed to change our plans. It was a bit noisy at nights however that was likely because it was the Easter long weekend and the Back of Bourke festival was on. Thank you again for your outback hospitality! Lots of lovely memories were made!

I'm leaving 1 star for the accommodation in order to be informative for people wanting to stay for any length of time. Unlike as advertised by Google, there is no WiFi. The room I booked for one night had no amenities besides a fridge which hummed all night and multiple holes in the wall which were filled with insulation. The bedsheets were stained.

Most of the reviews are about the general look and feel of the pub and the food, both of which I think are good, great even. But I would steer clear of staying there overnight.

Lovely old hotel. Great staff, very friendly. An absolute first - a pub that can't cook a chicken parmi and buffalo chicken wings! Dry, overcooked parmi served with a limp salad with a sickly sweet dressing. The sauce on my wings was delicious but they were dry and the outside coating was unpleasant. The beer was cold.

Great yummy food, but…waited for 45 minutes.
Kids friendly, there is a playground at the back, rooms are tidy and clean.

Don’t stay there if you want a good sleep!!! It’s horrible for a long driving distance traveler.
The live music played until 10.15pm,
People yelling and laughing when it is 11.30pm on the street! Thursday night.
And people walking around in the corridor at 5am stepping the old floor made big noises.

It’s hard for long distance travelers to have a quiet sleep ?

We have stayed at the Major Mittchell Motel 4 times on our way through Bourke and always walking around the corner with the dogs to the pub sitting outside having a drink with the locals with one drink turning into ten WELL it will end there on our last visit we were told by the owner to sit in the corner where the dog section is even though there was six people outside I explained we were here one week ago and sat right with everybody but her comment was no my pub move she was so rude we would’ve spent $200 again but that will not happen ever again there and the food was poor
