When we arrived at 3pm the reception door was locked so we called the phone number. Bruce answered and said “you should’ve received a sms with the details”.
Clearly we didn’t, hence the phone call.
Bruce then said “I am at lunch and won’t be there for another 30 minutes”.
Eventually we received a code to enter and the key was on the reception counter.
All good, but first impression was we were an inconvenience. Rooms were well appointed and the location is perfect.

We were late to check in, but that wasn’t an issue because we received a “welcome “ text message with instructions on how to collect our room key from reception.
Our room was spacious, clean the bed was comfortable and the spa was the icing on the cake. Complimentary Port or Sherry in the lounge foyer was a lovely touch.
We were in the heart of the Main Street, so the beach and all amenities were close. Had a great feed at the local pub (The Neptune Grand Hotel) which was a casual 1 minute walk away.
We were able to park our car directly opposite our accommodation without any issues.
I have absolutely nothing negative to report about our stay here!

Location is amazing and the view from room 1 upstairs was lovely. ||We specifically booked 2 rooms with fold out couches, as we are 4 single people. So this review is really a heads up for those needing extra fold out beds. ||The couches in rooms 1 & 5 are the type where the back folds down…. They are not beds and were ‘unsleepable’. They also don’t have linen to suit these couch beds. ||The regular beds were fine - quite comfy. ||The appliances could do with an upgrade, especially the toaster.

|We stayed in room 8. |one light in the living area wasn’t working |the couches need updating as it is very uncomfortable |my partner discovered a toilet roll under couch and dirt on carpet under couch. ||yes the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was quite adequate and there was sufficient kitchen stuff for our needs. Coffee table on its last legs. ||The staff were friendly. The location. was fantastic. Just an update. on some furniture and thorough spring clean and place will be good as new.

This is a character hotel in a fantastic location on Main Road in Penguin. Can be a touch noisy when windows are open (there is no AC) but for location that’s a small inconvenience. It is not the 4 star hotel it is advertised as & I think the price reflects that. We were not expecting anything fantastic for what we paid.|Our room was spacious. The bed was comfortable. Small dining table & lounge were fine. |The decor is dated & needs a refresh. |The room however wasn’t as clean as expected. It smelt of soured milk (we had to keep windows open to air room out), the towels were stained & I had the urge to clean the very grubby blinds in the bathroom. |Even the street entry was unkempt. |I did write the owners a note - it’s totally contactless checkin/checkout so you can’t see them.|The hotel has the potential to be fantastic. It just needs a good cleanup & refresh.

We were warmly welcomed by Ting Ting our host who was very attentive throughout our stay. We had a great view of Bass Strait and the Penguin "CBD" from our room. The hotel is one block back from the ocean on a quiet street, so our room was very quiet.|We would definitely stay here again if we are ever in Penguin or the surrounding area.

After having to change our holiday itinerary due to power outages and flooding, I called the hotel to cancel and requested no charge or fee on compassionate grounds. They charged me the full tariff anyway. Would never stay here even if it was free.
