Hungry Buddha is a Nepalese restaurant in Belconnen, located on the second floor of the building next to the petrol station. While parking is limited, I've always found a spot when visiting.

The restaurant has a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere, making it a great place to dine. I've been coming here for years, and the food has never disappointed especially the butter chicken and naan. The butter chicken is rich, creamy, and slightly sweeter than most, while the naan is freshly baked, aromatic and packed with flavor, especially the garlic and cheese variety. It's an excellent spot for sharing meals, allowing everyone to sample a bit of everything.

Overall no matter what you order, you're sure to leave satisfied.

"Normally, I don't give food reviews, but the service and food here were exceptional! Complimentary starters and a delicious lamb soup with dumpling—such a generous touch. The mains were served in hearty portions, and the deal was unbeatable. Consistent, friendly service is hard to find, especially at Nepali restaurants, but this place nailed it. Highly recommend!"

Had dinner here on a Sunday night. The restaurant itself is nicely themed with a relaxing vibe. We ordered a few curries with rice and cheese nan. The flavours and taste of the curries was nice and not too spicy. The rice was soft and fluffy, with the cheese nan being the highlight. There were quite a few bones in my fish curry so be warned for that. Otherwise the prices were not bad and I do recommend if you haven’t tried Nepalese type food.

The restaurant itself is in a quiet upstairs location with very pleasant decor. When our party of 5 were there on a Monday evening it was relatively quiet. We were seated close to a video screen with a cricket match being broadcast, possibly from India, and without being asked it was turned up quite loud by one of the staff. It was very distracting. Our orders were taken from an extensive but somewhat complicated menu. It was rather odd that on a quiet night one meal (mine) was served quite quickly and then there was a lengthy delay (well over half an hour) before any other meals were served. My meal (lamb soot I think it was called) was a dry and pretty tasteless lamb curry that was very unappetising with lots of dry rice puff and flakes that must be a feature of Nepalese food, a little pickled mango chutney and one slice of carrot and cucumber. The mushroom masala my vegetarian husband ordered was the most pleasant dish brought out and I suspect some of the other vegetarian dishes may be quite good too. I regretted not ordering the eggplant dish. 🙁The green Dahl and lamb shank were apparently quite good. Overall, we were all a little disappointed with the food and service. I think this style of Nepalese/Indian cuisine is suited to some more than others.

Thank you for your response. I definitely thought I was ordering a dry lamb curry and so did other members of our group so there was obviously a misunderstanding there. The young lady did not clarify it was an entree. It was a rushed decision after being told the fish dish I had planned on ordering was not available that evening. My daughter was unaware of the planned video being shown that night when she booked and in any case we would have understood if someone had at least mentioned the importance of the game when the volume was turned up. Also, we could have been seated further away from the screen. I will be more than happy to vary my review if our next experience is a better one.

We were welcomed with a very friendly staff, the menu is pretty huge! There is a 100+ items on it, I would definitely suggest to shrink down the number of items.

We started the night and the music was extremely loud, so loud to talk to the staff or to my partner we had to yell to each other. This obviously made it hard for the staff to hear our order and made the ordering process difficult. If the live music is advertised for a particular day of the week then I guess it’s alright, we just weren’t aware of it when planning our trip. Plan your trip around this as it’s really hard to enjoy a conversation or catch up with friends/family during the performance.

The Lalmohan (gulab jamun) was delicious!

The prices were very reasonable for what you get, food was really delicious and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
