This charming hotel is unfortunately no longer very charming and requires a fair bit of maintenance to get it up to scratch.

Firstly there is no check in desk. The hotel is like an after thought to the restaurant, bar and nightclub. Although the manager of the bar was helpful there was no one to assist with questions or concerns. The room was standard. The best thing about it was the shower. Very powerful. But the windows in the bathroom had the concealing paper bits peeling off and so people could see inside the bathroom. The room was not serviced at all and the towels are like small dish cloths. The balcony was a nice extra but was filthy dirty. There is no loft so be aware if stairs are an issue for you.

The noise in this hotel is horrible. All three nights we stayed we could hear the music from the night club below. People yelling downstairs and outside and on the second night it sounded like cleaners came in vacuuming and throwing glass bottles into bins.

Be aware that there is also no parking here. Street parking only which costs during the day and is hard to find at night.

I would not recommend this hotel. I don’t believe this is the staffs fault but simply an old hotel that need attention, renovation and priority given over the restaurant and nightclub to bring it back to its former glory.

What a great find. Lovely old fashioned pub. They haven't ruined the interior with a tacky clubland makeover.
Lucky to arrive on jam session night downstairs. House band were very good, as were the jammers.
Food was fine, service friendly and professional.
We walked 50 metres with our bags.
Big deal (that's for the whingers).

Stayed at The Grand Hotel as I was attending a concert at Civic Theatre Newcastle.|Lovely old style pub with several different areas to enjoy including a “jazz bar” underground. What a bonus!|Great pub meal for dinner.|Comfortable, clean room. Lovely mattress. |Nice staff.|Will definitely stay again.

Impressive. The building looks old but the room was surprisingly quite modern. Friendly staff. There's no reception, just pop up straight to the bar for check in

Best pub food ever!! Came here in 2023 and was knocked over by the quality of the food. Sooo unexpected. Just came back to Newcastle and stayed here again. Kind of worried that the food couldnt be as good again ..... but it absolutely is.
Nothing flashy about the decor but the food!!! My oh my!!

We enjoyed our stay, had 2 different nice generous rooms in a traditional pub. In the bigger one you couldn't open the windows (I like fresh air at night) but it was a hot air con night anyway, so all good. Parking requires a bit of smartness, if you don't want to pay meters look up the hill. The Grand is only two blocks from the beach and one block from two very good coffee places plus plenty of restaurants. Nice draft beers downstairs.

Went for family function. Excellent service, care, food and drinks. Would love to have more there and do recommend it.

No parking at venue. Check in at bar was friendly and efficient. Dinner in restaurant was well below par and table was sticky and felt very unclean. My meal of pork sausages was well undercooked. Bar continued to serve very drunk patrons. Nat staff were the highlight though, very friendly.
Room 18 is dreadful. Very small, no opening windows and funky smell. Image attached of screens on window with message written in dust from 12 MONTGS AGO!! Noisy air con or something outside window.
