My wife and I were treated to breakfast by a friend—always a great way to start the day without cooking. The first café we visited was full, so we went next door to the Coffee Club on The Strand, Townsville. The restaurant looked modern and clean, with just four other customers enjoying their meals. After placing and paying for our three orders, I eagerly anticipated my Big Breakfast.

The food arrived promptly, and the plate looked promising, but unfortunately, the taste didn’t live up to the presentation. The mushrooms were cold, the sausage was barely warm, and the eggs—though nicely coloured—were overcooked and lukewarm. To my surprise, there were no baked beans. Of the seven items on the plate, only the bacon, hash brown, and toast were enjoyable.

How does one mess up a Big Breakfast? Based on other Google reviews, it seems I’m not alone in my disappointment.

i went to the coffee club with my mum, my friend, and her mum we were going out for breakfast cause we had a plane to catch that night. we got there and all the tables were dirty with plates and cups on them. i ordered bacon & eggs it was sitting there for over 10 minutes i could see staff members walking past and looking at it. we eventually complained but by the time it got to me the eggs were cold. she said she would remake them and my eggs came back r How do you spell rubbery and some was cold. when we complained about our food we weren’t the only ones there were plenty more people complaining. the staff were rude to customers and each other. they were all fighting and they need at adult to take charge because they were all teenagers. i could of done a better job of at least serving the fod! overall this place is not worthy of your money and time.

The location is great, with an amazing view. Went here for breakfast. The presentation of the food was lovely however the egg was hard and not fresh, the whole meal was definitely reheated.. my friend ordered a cap however received a mocca.. and the customer service was not welcoming. Its a shame, coffee club is usually good..

First time there this morning, beautiful food, service, environment was absolutely the best I have been too, air con and fan excellent for this weather as went with my daughter and 8 month old granddaughter. Toilet facility new and beautiful but a suggestion maybe a baby fold down change inside and nappy bin would be great too. The main light when entering did not work so seeing to wash hands and entrance was difficult but toilet heads if room and light fantastic We will be back as apart from minor issues very excellent place that we love. Staff fantastic too. Well done.

I've just returned to the Coffee Club after its recent makeover. Two days in a row I've had excellent coffee and today I had the bacon and eggs special, which was excellent. Two poached eggs, great bacon and sourdough. Delicious. Whilst the coffee and food stay this good I'll keep coming back. Well done guys.

Decided to try out Coffee Club one sunday morning with a friend for breakfast. Was not disappointed. The customer service was fantastic. The food and drinks was delicious. The view of Maggie Island was great.

I went to The Coffee Club yesterday morning for breakfast with my partner and had a very disappointing experience. My partner ordered the big veggie brekkie, which came out without eggs. When she notified the staff, they took the plate and brought a new one with eggs but didn’t apologize or acknowledge the mistake. To make matters worse, the eggs had not one but two short hairs in them (like eyelashes).

I ordered the same meal but vegan. The young lady at the till was friendly, which was the only positive part of our visit. When I asked if they could replace the eggs and cheese with something else, she said no but that they would give me more of the other ingredients. This was disappointing as it meant there was no protein in the vegan alternative, showing a lack of consideration for their vegan customers.

When my plate arrived, it looked almost identical to my partner’s, just without the cheese and eggs. For AUD25, the meal was not worth it. The taste was nothing special, and it was definitely not fulfilling. Overall, it felt like a complete waste of money. I wouldn’t recommend this place. You’re better off visiting local cafes instead of big chains

Terrible experience today (13 January 2025). Only a single table available inside, despite most being empty, just all dirty and covered in dirty dishes. Even after sitting here for 30 minutes or so the tables are still all dirty. Ordered a Vegetarian Big Breakfast - Vegan Option as per the menu, and a piece of bacon and a hash brown on a seperate plate. The big breakfast came with toast with butter, not margarine, and halloumi. The bacon and hash brown were placed on top of the big breakfast, not on a seperate plate.

Very disappointing experience, will not come again. Recommend any of the multitude other cafes in the area if you are visiting.
