Beautiful Setting and Great Service, But Disappointing Room Experience

We stayed at Anchorage for our anniversary and while the service was excellent and the buffet breakfast was great, there were several aspects of our stay that left us underwhelmed.

We were first allocated a room that had ants all over the bed. While this wasn’t necessarily the hotel’s fault – these things happen – the staff were quick to move us. However, the new room we were given was on the ground floor, right next to the restaurant, with very little privacy and significant noise. For a special occasion like an anniversary, we would have appreciated a more peaceful setting.

The room itself was poorly insulated – we felt the cold throughout the night, and the heater barely made a difference. The shower stall was also quite narrow, making it less than comfortable. Adding to the disappointment, we were told the jacuzzi was out of order, and the spa was closed – on a Sunday, which was surprising and something we’ve never experienced at a resort before.

While the staff were lovely and attentive, and the location is stunning, the overall experience didn’t live up to the expectations we had for a special getaway. With a few improvements in maintenance and guest comfort, this could be a truly exceptional stay.

Hard to fault with the winter warmth package. Best breakfast buffet I've ever had, personable staff who, whilst prompt on service, were relaxed. Decor was stunning aswell as the views of what felt like a little maritime village. Room was cozy and clean, nothing beating the views when you opened up the curtains in the morning. My wife and I had a wonderful 2 night stay. Our only recommendation is that the package which included lunch for 2 be for dinner instead as after that breakfast buffet, neither of us could barely touch lunch as we were stuffed. In all other aspects, the Anchorage is highly recommended.

Anchorage Port Stephens is truly one of the best beachfront properties you can stay at. It offers stunning harbour views and is surrounded by charming little cafes along the waterfront. The service is top-notch, and the breakfast spread is impressive with a wide variety of options. Rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and offer great views. Overall, it’s a must-visit destination for a relaxing getaway. We had an amazing long weekend over Easter at Anchorage Port Stephens. The views, the vibe, and the hospitality made it a truly memorable getaway. One of the highlights of the property is the captivating sculptures of Dogman and Rabbitwoman by artist Gillie and Marc — a unique touch that adds charm and character to the place.

Everything about The Anchorage is simply stunning — from the genuinely warm and welcoming staff to the sumptuous food and its own captivating views, no matter the weather.

The Galley Kitchen is hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in the area (and we managed to try quite a few!). Be sure to try the braised pork belly, prawn linguine, and tempura broccolini — all absolute standouts. I only wish I had ordered more of the cheesecake for dessert!

We stayed in the Captain Suites Room, which was perfect for a small family. It felt almost like a two-bedroom setup, with the living area cleverly transformed into a cosy sleeping space using the sofa bed. Our wraparound balcony offered a beautiful beach view. While I didn’t quite agree with the pillow choices, I can appreciate it was part of the overall aesthetic they were going for.

Very nice view from the hotel room but must book the 1st floor room with sea view. The balcony is very good for having a cup of coffee/tea n relaxing. The hotel has a holiday feel. There is a swimming pool n self laundry by inserting coins, but no gym. Room is very clean, spacious with comfy bed. But toilet is very small compared with the room size. Buffet breakfast is ok with sparkling wine, but variety can be more. Also tried the dinner in the hotel restaurant n it is just fair

The Anchorage was the BEST place for a winter escape—I can only imagine how great it would be in the warmer months. We were travelling with our one-year-old son, and the staff were so cheerful and happy. There is a great playground beside the Anchorage, a beautiful beach, and walking tracks. The food was sensational, and the accommodation elegant.

This is an attractive hotel in a lovely location, opposite a small marina and next to a pristine beach.|We stayed in an Anchorage room which was light and spacious, although the bathroom was very small comparatively.|Breakfasts are self-serve with a good selection of food on offer, We ate in The Galley restaurant both evenings and enjoyed our meal both times.|The main downside to the hotel is that it’s quite compact, so feels busy and noisy. There is an adults only pool (hurrah) but apart from that there is nowhere to go to escape children running around, If you are a couple and want a quiet drink or a romantic meal then this would be impossible here. For this reason I don’t think I would want to stay here over the summer holidays.|Overall, a nice hotel and I recommend it if you are a family, but not so much if you want a quiet escape.

Another lovely experience at The Anchorage. We chose to spend our 1st wedding anniversary here and it did not disappoint. The breakfast is great and the grounds are beautiful. So lovely waking up to the boats in the harbour.
