We stayed in River Cottage, a comfortable two bedroom cottage, for two nights. The cottage was very well-equipped and the breakfast provisions left for us were fantastic. The beds were luxurious! We enjoyed the tranquility of the late afternoons on the deck over-looking the Tamar - remarkable colours, wish I could paint! The early mornings were spectacular as were the birdcalls. |We had several walks along quiet roads and alongside the river. Kayena is very well located to explore the many attractions on both sides of the Tamar, all within easy distances to drive.|Thank you Ian so much for your hospitality and friendliness. |

A friend and I spent two nights in the River View cottage and found it so beautiful that we wished we had booked a longer stay. The view of the river is stunning and the surrounding gardens are gorgeous. Woke each morning to the sound of birds and saw lots of cute rabbits - even spied a seal swimming in the river.||The hosts are great - friendly and helpful but also unobtrusive. The cottage is equipped with wifi, TV, lots of DVDs and books and the breakfast is very generous. ||Would love to return some day.|

Large well equipped accommodation in beautiful location we had 4 nights here. Clean and well kept with wildlife all round. Car parking a short walk from accommodation (20 meters). The owners were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast items they provided where above expectations. The accommodation we had was overlooking the river and we walked down the extensive lawn to the public landing stage to have a close look at the river. Very well placed for wineries and many other local attractions.||This is a perfect place to stay, many thanks to the owners for a beautiful stay and good luck to the cats.

I recently stayed 5 nights at Tamar River Retreat in the two-bedroom River View cottage with my mother, for some rest and relaxation after some recent health issues. We had heard excellent things about the property and all I can say is that we were not disappointed - this retreat is by far one of the best country cottages I've stayed in throughout all my domestic travels in Australia over the years. ||||The River View cottage is one of just two cottages/cabins available at hosts Ian and Sandra's property in Kayena, about 35 - 40 minutes drive north of Launceston. Looking out over the Tamar River and beyond, the fabulous view is the first thing that you notice upon arrival (along with the beautiful balcony on which hundreds of roses are grown). Ian and Sandra are friendly but unobtrusive hosts, and have clearly taken the time to create a homely cottage with all the essentials and extras that holidaying travellers need to settle in and relax. ||||The cottage has everything you could possibly want. The full kitchen is completely decked out, including fridge, stove and oven, microwave, plates and cutlery, kitchen utensils of every description as well as complimentary breakfast items included on the first day (which were bacon, eggs, yoghurt, cereals, loaf of bread, condiments e.g. jams and honey, milk and orange juice). The pantry is also well stocked with items you often forget on your travels, such as oil, salt and pepper, coffee and tea and cleaning items. The rest of the cottage is the same, with TV and DVD player, washing machine and laundry items, soap, extra blankets and pillows, and portable heater (although reverse cycle air conditioning is there also). If you stay I recommend purchasing usual groceries from nearby towns and cooking in - it was so easy and stress-free we didn't eat out at all in the evenings. Not only that, I couldn't believe my luck when I learned that there's also unlimited free-wifi. Best ever! ||||As well as the cottage itself being excellent, there's lots to see around the property - including the very cute pademelons (sort of like a wallaby) and lots of native birds - and there is access to a local back road which takes you down to the river to sit and relax. Of course, the location is also a stone's throw from local Tamar Valley wineries and attractions. Sandra was very helpful in suggesting a number of good places to eat, including Velo Wines which we ended up having a fantastic lunch at. ||||All in all I am most definitely going back to Tamar River Retreat again and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone travelling in the northern Tasmania region.

Excellent breakfast provisions which exceeded our expectations. The River Cottage is very well equipped, and a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas in every direction. Several pademelons on the property and many thanks to the owners for making our stay most enjoyable!

We booked the "Riverview Cottage", we've been travelling around already for 3 weeks, eating in restaurants, we wanted to chill and have a home cooked meal.||Perfect, full kitchen, private, incredible view, Wi-Fi, bbq and good location to explore the area. The cabin is well equipped with lots of extra's, a perfect retreat. Our hosts filled the kitchen with breakfast & coffee, nice to see things like butter/oil, tinfoil, etc for cooking needs. Really more than we expected.

Delightful B&B Accommodation with views overlooking the Tamar River. Breakfast hamper provided saved us having to find last minute provisions and recommendations on where to go for a vineyard restaurant lunch (Velo) then a drive up to Beaconsfield and Beauty Point saved us having to do our own research. Thank you Ian for your hospitality.

There are 2 cabins only. Ours had wonderful views of the river from the expansive deck. It is well located for wineries such as nearby Holm Oaks. Unfortunately the neighbour’s rooster disturbed my sleep (3am!). Breakfast provisions were good except that supermarket bread was supplied (not homemade as advertised).
