Went for lunch to this Tavern.
I hade the smash avo and my daughter the traditional chicken parmigiana with gravy.
I must say the prices had been updated and got more expensive. I payed about $49 for our meals. It was alright, my smashed avocado was a cold meal and with 2 runny eggs and bacon on top of a thick bread.

I drove about 1.45 hrs to this tavern cause I heard the food supposed to be good about maybe a year ago.
Well it was nothing really special that I couldn’t have eat in Townsville.

Fast and friendly dinner service here with absolutely massive meals! We tried the chicken parmy and deep fried Camembert and everything was really tasty. One of our group had a mistake with his order and they rectified it quickly and did a great job in the customer service area.

The Sovereign Hotel was open for food and magnificent Schnitzels were what we chose...No pubs in town when we arrived were open for dinner only drinks..lucky for us as we've been meaning to try this lovely clean and cool pub for a while...we'll the Schniztels I thought were going to be thin as they usually are...but these beef schnitzels were huge and tender like you wouldn't believe!! So delicious I've never had such an amazing schnitzel ...we also ordered the garlic prawn topper on the side and we had 4 prawns and dipped our chips in the garlic sauce as I asked for extra lemon to squeeze on my schnitzel...heavenly...Schnitzels $25.50 and the topper$8...i asked the manager to hold the menu so you can see what a great menu they have! Really cool bloke...you'll love it here

I highly recommend this place The Sovereign Tavern for your lunch and dinner. The cost of the three meals came to $75.00.
I went there with my Dad and his friend for dinner on a Friday night and we got the last table, so I recommend that you phone up to reserve a table as at 6pm it was booked out we were just lucky to get a table that night. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the beers were nice and cold as well.
Dad and I went again on the Saturday night but this time we did book a table and I'm glad we did as again it was totally booked out this time Dad got a chicken salad and I got a 400gm steak and again it was cooked perfectly. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere at the pub was great. The cost for the two meals on the Saturday night was $60.00 as I order the bigger steak from the night before.
When I come back to Charter Towers again I will be going back there for a dinner or two.
The Sovereign Tavern I highly recommend to just to have a drink there or to have your lunch or dinner. Thank you.

Staff were lovely, food was less than ordinary and chef had a very poor attitude. Meals took a long time, meals got mixed then rectified, however food was cold and overcooked. They did give us our money back but we left annoyed and unsatisfied.

Was a bit shocked receiving the calamari entree (pictured) which cost $14.90. I have had other meals here that were really good but this was incredibly disappointing. Otherwise the bartenders were all lovely and provided great service.

5:30pm bistro opens for dinner, no croquettes which was a bit disappointing.
Took 12 minutes to receive food, ordering at 530pm for one person
Chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce, salad and chips was delicious.
Bar staff check you have done your covid check in so have that done upon entering to save time.
Bar and bistro staff both friendly and welcoming.
Decent priced food and drinks.
Nice modern environment, book to ensure you get a table.

Service is generally very rude.
I ask for a beer with some head on it, and I get told ‘you get what you’re given’. Ridiculously rude young woman..I received the beer with bugger all head, and the beer was garbage.
It’s not like first time I’ve come across rude bar staff here. I think they must be the owners kin.
Never be back again.
