The view and location is the best you can’t compare. Service is just okay. We have our brother come to the island with us but didn’t stay in the hotel and warn you it’s very hard to find restaurants since the island very peaceful nature. We ask if our brother can eat at the restaurant and want to pay for it they said cannot and that’s fine maybe it’s hotel rule. Then afterwards the second night he forget some clothes and charger in our bag so we ask if he can come get it at the lobby. When my husband go out and hand our brother the thing. The staff ask us to meet him outside the lobby when it’s very windy. And after that the day we leave they ask if our my brother will send back the bag we give him (the bag we put in thing in and gave in which is it’s my bag. Imagine when you buy a dress and they have a white bag to protect the dress for you) it is so confuse they don’t even know that it’s our bag and many times make us think that we are bad person and they have to look after us or what.

But mostly the staff are so good and nice and helpful. Just some that so weird.

The view from the living area is the best that I’ve ever seen.

Lovely scenic destination, perfect for a getaway! Beautiful property, well made rooms that justify the serenity! But coming to the service and hospitality, i would rate it zero. It is extremely disappointing to see such bad hospitality and provisions for the guests from such a known and luxurious lodge! They are not flexible to the guests needs and requirements, they have made our experience sad on the very first day. They fail to have basic communication which creates a lot of problems! Being flexible in such a high paid, luxury and personalised stay is a basic behaviour! I personally would love to recommend this stay to my friends and family but because of this service I will never be able to!

They only allowed positive reviews. I hope the new hotel are more accommodating to their guests. We were actually moved from our room because a favored guest wanted her friends nearby. The food was less than adequate. I hope their new place is kinder and more considerate. They knew I was less than happy and I could tell they were waiting for my negative review which I did not write. I hope they checked everyday to write their negative reasons we were not to be believed. I know the hotel was burned to the ground. Yes, I did smile. As I am writing this review a decade or two later.

I particularly enjoyed the guided coastal trek, where I encountered native wildlife like kangaroos and koalas in their natural habitat. The combination of luxurious accommodations, personalized service, and the beauty of Kangaroo Island makes Southern Ocean Lodge an extraordinary getaway for nature lovers and luxury seekers alike.

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Southern Ocean Lodge. |The weather was windy and cool but KI was empty which made our stay very special. Our room Osprey was $4000+ AU per night and it has a great view of the surf breaking on the beach. We were surprised at the lack of interest in our investment to stay in SOL’s top room on the property. The spa/pool a major feature of the room is heated to apx 75 degrees. DO NOT make my mistake and think of it as a special hot tub overlooking the majestic view. Management has decided you should enjoy your hot water in the shower. There is no recognition that you are paying 2.5 times the rate for your special suite. Same amenities, same options for activities, same expense to get to and from the lodge if you can’t make the twice a day transfer work. We rented a car so we were able to create our own schedule of activities. Recommend you check out the Wilderness park for close up animal experiences, Snake lagoon for a 2 hour hike, and the group nocturnal evening experience. |The F&B program at SOL is one of the best we have encountered. |If you enjoy fine cuisine you will find it at SOL. The Australia only wine list is complete, but for a three day stay we longed for some European wines to purchase. |If we go back to SOL we would stay in a regular suite as the expense for Osprey is not a good value.

My husband and I are returning guests to SOL and it won’t be our last. The rebuild after the fire is stunningly beautiful w lighter stone work and a centralised spa. The hiking and swimming are exceptional but it’s the isolation and serenity that draws us back. The culinary cuisine and beverage selection is THE best and we felt in awe of the attention to detail and the international staff who can’t do enough to ensure your stay is enjoyable. We stayed 4 nights and felt that our batteries had recharged and we can take on the world.

As the doors open into the grand main room, I would challenge any one not to gasp at the beauty on display. Then as you relax in the arms of the staff who cater for all your whims and are presented with the most astonishing wine and spirits bar anywhere (all of which is included!!), you realise you have arrived in Heaven.
The day trips, if you can tear yourself away from the lodge, are guided by excellent, knowledgeable and committed guides from the Lodge.
What a resort!
