A Glebe institution! It’s always enjoyable to browse the 3 level bookshop, including a comprehensive Da Capo music section on the upper floor. During the day, the cafe has a lovely vibe away from the busy street (especially on a Saturday morning when Glebe Markets are on). Good coffee (4.5/5 for my double mac). However, it’s at night when the cafe/bar really turns it on as a performance venue, with live music Tuesday-Saturday. We saw the most excellent Blue Tram there recently. Access to the venue is down the alley to the right (between Sappho and Gleebooks). The bar had a good selection of food plates to share (including vegan options; ~ $18/plate) and the $10 house red wine is 7/10. As the space is partly open to the sky, there are a couple of different heating options during winter, including IR heating bars. Recommended on all fronts (bookstore, cafe and bar/venue).

Visited this Cafe bookstore with family over breakfast. The set up was nice and warm. Plenty of seating to read and eat and chitchat. The acai bowl was delicious and healthy. All the items were a bit $$ but it's worth going if you are fond of books and coffee.

This was a really spontaneous decision and it looked like a book store first but when you explore it through the store at the back it opens up to a beautiful vintage style cafe. They also have a bar upstairs. The menu was really good and with a lot of variety. The interior was very attractive and the staff were very polite. They have various breakies brunch and lunch options with some desserts as well. I ordered a mushroom toast something and coffee probably the best latte I've had. The food was amazing. It's another hidden gem in glebe. Must visit.

Beautiful bookstore with a unique atmosphere and collection. There are multiple levels with books including classics, contemporary, science fiction, and non fiction. It has a notable sheet music collection here as well. Did not get an opportunity to try the cafe, but did meet the resident cat who was very friendly.

What a gorgeous place. A courtyard cafe/bar that you have to sneak down a thin gap between buildings to access... but when you do that, you're greeted by a cosy area that looks beautiful, great staff at a neat little bar / kitchen, and some local music to set the mood. Well worth a visit. I was there in winter and they had a freshly made mulled wine, which (although in usually kinda can't stand mulled wine) I loved.

A Hidden Gem in Glebe!

Sappho Cafe is an absolute delight! The environment is fantastic—especially the charming outdoor seating area at the back, which feels like a hidden paradise tucked away from the main street. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal.

The food was excellent and arrived quickly. My wife chose the Mouse and Men ($14), while I opted for the Lamb Kofta Bowl ($24). Both dishes were not only delicious but also served in ample portions, making them great value for money.

The coffee was simply awesome—smooth, rich, and expertly brewed. It’s clear that Safo Cafe takes pride in its coffee as much as its food.

Overall, a wonderful experience. If you’re in Glebe and looking for a spot with tasty food, great coffee, and a relaxing atmosphere, I highly recommend Sappho Cafe!

Well worth going on a treasure hunt to find this fantastic cafe in the back of the coolest book shop. The food is on point and comes out quickly and served by the friendly staff. The drinks were all top notch. Go and find this place!
