Very happy with our stay at the Rydes Esplanade Cairns. Friendly and efficient service from staff. Great rooms, we had ocean view which provided wonderful view of the Cairns Esplanade and bay. Pool is great and the kids loved spending time in there escaping from the northern QLD heat and humidity. Great location relative to everything in and around Cairns. Definitely recommend and we will stay here again.

Lovely front reception staff, willing to answer any Q’s you have.

However:

The house keeping staff don’t communicate with the front reception staff, our room didn’t get cleaned for 3 days!! (I did get that deducted from my account though)

My bed had bed bugs!! I woke up every day w it bites makes all over my body.

There are no signs for out in the pool areas for “no smoking” we saw 3 people smoke around outside & no staff members pulled them up on it!!

On the up side of all that;

The view was amazing & the hotel is walkable to all restaurants & cafe’s. The breakfast buffet in the morning was amazing & everything was very fresh every day.

I would recommend this place to others on a warning of the above issues. Value for money but is in desperate need for improvement.

Great stay. Central location. Friendly staff. Views from rooms on sea view side worth booking as Cairns Harbour is a busy place with cruise ships arriving and departing made a spectacular site. Pools lovely way to relax.

Across road from beach with sea view option and great pool for swimming laps (early or during check out times or rain) free parking, easy walk to muddys cafe 300m, night market 700m.
Room large enough and everything worked. If you didn’t need room service you get $15 voucher each time

Disappointed, we booked one night in the family room, the pictures online of the room made it look recently updated/ renovated, however upon checking in there were lots of damage to the wall behind the queen bed, the walls were absolutely filthy. The walls on the kids bunks were especially marked. The bunk beds had little tv’s built in each that were cool but the remote that I think was attached by a bike lock was missing. I am an EVT member so I got the room at $262 for the night but for the quality I thought it was very overpriced. The main pool was alright but the plants and the paint flaking off the deck were a bit sad, the actual pool was very clean though however the pictures online are very deceiving. Could be amazing if given a bit more TLC.

The only saving grace in my opinion is the excellent and friendly staff. Having reception open 24/7 was very helpful. Staff couldn’t be more helpful, so we thank Rydges cairns for that! The location was also great. We walked to the esplanade for dinner

The bar was also very well priced and a good selection of options but lacked atmosphere unfortunately.

THE ABSOLUTE NERVE OF THIS PLACE!!! 🤬🤬

I forked out nearly $600 for a single night at this hole for a romantic New Years Eve. The room was absolutely disgusting, damaged, extensive stains, paint damage, rediculously dirty and smelly. Once the state of the room was reported to staff, they said it would be passed on. Nothing was done. So I spoke to reception who said they would send a cleaner up. No real apology or any offer of compensation or consolidation. They then proceeded to air the fact they had internal issues with management. The cleaner changed the stained sheets but cleaned nothing, because apparently 8:30pm on new years eve is to late to vacuum because they might upset other guests? But apparently it okay for me to stay in a dirty room. At least the cleaner was friendly.

The grazing plate we ordered was disgusting and drowned in oil from the sardines 🤮 and, given the condensation on the plate, had been sitting in the fridge for some time prior to our arrival.

The only positive is that at least they acknowledged that they had stuffed up and it was their fault, once they saw the photos. But they did nothing to rectify the problem.

I would be embarrassed if I was responsible for this place.

Happy New Years 🎉🎉🎉

Location excellent easy walk along boardwalk to restaurants & bars. Reception /bar & restaurant staff very pleasant. Room was clean & beds very comfortable. View was really lovely from level 10. Small balcony. Very quiet no noise however room was very tired & really needing upgraded. Didn’t like having a shower curtain or shower over bath. All in it was fine for 4 nights but wouldn’t have liked longer.

I had a room with 2 beds, balcony, bath over shower, and breakfast included. |The beds are made with a top sheet. You have to make the bed yourself with the blankets you'll find in the top cupboard. After a long work day and travel, slow check in, this is not at all welcome. I like a hotel room with bedding already made up. || The air-conditioning is icy cold with no individually controlled temperature gauge . There's a sign at the On/Off switch saying the room gets cold, so turn the aircon off. I estimate 18°. There is a ceiling fan which is unusual for hotels. The balcony is large but you can't sit out there, as there's no outdoor furniture. |The bed was deliciously soft and comfortable however, all the pillows were wafer thin and lumpy, they seemed a 100 years old. The bed moved away from the wall whenever I rolled over, so I lost my pillows down the crack. |Room service was a disappointment. It is served in a takeaway container inside a brown paper bag with disposable cutlery, giving the impression you'd just ordered takeaway, not room service from a 4 star hotel. I ordered curry and rice for $27 +$5 delivery fee. The potatoes were frozen with that tell-tale bland taste and rubbery texture. Hugely unsatisfactory and disappointing. |There is no drinking water in the hotel room. Not even a paid option. |The water pressure on the shower was excellent. Obviously not a slow flow water saver shower head that so many hotels give you now. Instant coffee sachets, uht milk, and teabags in room. |Check in was slow, was it the system or internet? Not sure. Reception uniforms are surprisingly unusual, a thin striped cotton tshirt, which can look quite shabby, ill fitting (oversized) and too casual. Not at all a professional appearance. |Breakfast was nice, the usual hot & cold offerings. Automated coffee machine ground and brewed a decent and strong coffee. |Morning reception staff were very pleasant, supervisor had a better uniform than the t-shirts, which looked more appropriate and professional. Check out was slow, again not sure if the systems or internet. |The hotel is now cashless but has the audacity to charge a card fee. This is outrageously rude. Staff unapologetic as they speak off script to explain. |Overall the hotel experience felt a bit cheap, and the hotel is tired. |I'm giving 3 stars, mostly for breakfast staff and room cleanliness. |
