Disappointing Experience at Bistro 56
Visited Bistro 56 today for lunch with my mother, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired, especially in terms of customer service. The lady taking our order was dismissive and unhelpful, which immediately put a damper on the meal.

I ordered a schnitzel with chips and mushroom sauce for $24 and a schnitzel parmigiana for $29 ($24 for the schnitzel and an extra $5 for the parmigiana topping). However, I was surprised when I was told that adding a sauce would cost an extra $4. Apparently, if you order a schnitzel on its own, the sauce is included, but if you add a topping, like the parmigiana, you lose the sauce inclusion and have to pay extra for it. This policy seems nonsensical—why should adding a topping void what’s otherwise included in the meal?

So essentially, Bistro 56 would rather you order a plain schnitzel to get the free sauce. If you decide to pay extra for a topping, you’re penalized by being charged another $4 for the sauce. Even more frustrating, if you order a steak or a schnitzel without any topping, the sauce is free. But if you order a parmigiana, it’ll cost you an extra $9 in total.

Customer service should be about providing a fair and enjoyable dining experience, but this left me feeling frustrated and undervalued. Certainly not the service you’d expect for such a simple order.

I came to the bistro here for lunch. There are the pub classics like steaks and chicken snitty but there are some dishes that were just sensational and not the norm to a bistro menu. The standout for me was the Peking duck arancini. The salad with it was sublime. The rest of the meals including a tasting platter and a variety of burgers were well cooked, fresh and tasty. The only complaint was there were so many interesting looking dishes that it was not easy to pick from the menu. I guess the upside is that we will have to come back! Well done team!

Good pub in the Middle of town, nice selection of beers, kitchen closes early though. Great pub to finish after a bushwalk...

His demeanor was calm collected and fabulous
He has incredibly charming mannerisms. I would recommend the royal hotel as a fine establishment to chillax and party with your fellows especially if Matt is on shift ?

I had dinner at the bistro, the service was excellent. Friendly staff and great food. I highly recommend.

The room is right above the pub so you'll have loud club music until 1am every night you can hear even inside the room. There is no staff at night nor an emergency contact number.
Otherwise the room is clean and located right next to the station.

A reasonable meal but for the $22...i would have expected it to be better ! Too much salt that spoiled the meal..sanity over cooked.6/10
But the Staff were brilliant 10/10

I gave 5 stars because although the room I had was pretty basic and a bit worn in places, the bed was comfy, the bathroom clean, the location directly across from the railway station (I used the train) was perfect for me and the staff were friendly and welcoming. For around $100 I seriously could not ask for more. I don't get these entitled reviewers who expect the quality of the Hilton when it's probably costing them $400 less per night. I'll be back in September!
