We come down to Portland three or four times a year and we like to try a few meals over various times and locations to see if there’s any consistency with the meals. We have visited The Gordon, The Macs, The Royal and The Richmond Henty We don’t mind paying good money for good food and on all occasions I’ve attended this establishment the food is always of a very high standard. The location is great with lots of parking spaces out the front because it’s a few hundred meters away from main drag. We were served by Kevina whose hospitality and general chit chat was honest and refreshing. We had the chicken parmigiana with salad and chips, chicken schnitzel with vegetables with Diane sauce and seafood risotto. Waited no more than 15 minutes and we could tell the difference between these meals and that of the competitors. We didn’t tell Kevina that Rick, one of our travel companions is a qualified chef and we were impressed with the whole package, quality food presented correctly, friendly service, nice atmosphere and very reasonably priced. I never take photos of food but on this occasion I did, only send it to my brother who was also visiting Portland and had the misfortune of eaten a parmigiana at The Gordon the day before.
This will now be our ‘go to’ place every time we visit Portland.
I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have at least one negative comment. You might want to change the shade sails out the front, they look a bit ratty.

Dining on Easter Sunday with 3 adults and 2 kids.
Felt sorry for waiting staff who were clearly working hard and trying to pleas 40plus people. We waited to order and eat for over a hour. The food was excellent when we ate after 2pm.
There was no where to change a nappy and several young children were dining.
If you are open staff it properly!
Put a nappy change table in.

At first glance, the dining area was unkept, dirty and presented an unwelcoming feel. We had to move tables as well as clean our own tables, which is NOT a customers job.
The main waitress was extremely rude, unprofessional and did not accommodate to our needs well. She spoke with an extensive amount of attitude to each member of my family, and kept an unfriendly face the entire time of dining. Our food took over an hour to arrive and it was mid.
Would not recommend this place for tourists!

Great location, shame that our room had a bad odor and so did the top sheet. Feel like it hasn't been washed in a very long time.

3rd floor views are amazingly beautiful at sunrise. Rooms are a decent size with a small verandah, clean bathrooms and tea and coffee supplies. Really enjoyed our stay

There’s a saying that you get what you pay for, and at $125 AUD a night, the Richmond Henty Hotel reflects the low cost in disappointing ways. The air conditioning in our room (Room 8) did not work, which is a significant issue when staying in Australia’s climate.When I informed the receptionist during checkout, her lack of concern was striking. She seemed uninterested and entirely unfazed when I mentioned leaving a poor review, which gave the impression that this was a common occurrence.The swimming pool was basic but lovely, though it was not heated. The location is convenient, and the price is low, but the failure to maintain basic amenities makes it hard to recommend. If you want certainty of quality, this isn’t the place to stay.

The beds were nice and soft and clean, the bathroom could do with a freshen up. The soap shelf was broken off in the shower and not replaced. The test and tags on the hair dryer was 12 years out of date. The breakfast omelette was very nice but the toast was like warm hard bread.

the older lady working at the pub made fun of my son and was very rude and took nearly an hour to order our drinks. our room was messy when we got in and had a weird smell and the location was ok. never coming back
