A Memorable Stay at Pier One Apartments

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Pier One Apartments, and I can confidently say it was a wonderful experience!

Location and Views
The location is simply unbeatable. Nestled in a prime area, the apartments offer breathtaking views that truly enhance the overall experience. Waking up to such beauty every morning was a highlight of our stay.

Accommodations
Our room was not only nice but also impeccably clean. It was well-maintained and provided all the comforts we needed for a relaxing getaway. The attention to detail in the room made us feel right at home.

Great accommodation. The host Margie made sure all our questions were answered and assisted with luggage storage etc. Beautiful views of the beach from basically everywhere in the apartment. All amenities available in the unit. Parking spot too.

Walking distance to several eateries and top beaches.

I booked the unit for 2 weeks back in April 2024. Could only get 5 nights at the time. The owner, Margie Robinson, said to phone when I wanted the other 9 nights, which I did but she has never answered my calls or my emails. She still has the $3150 and refuses to refund or allow us the 9 nights. I call that stealing.

The unit was amazing, however the company that manages holiday accommodation (Fraser Coast Holiday Management) was dreadful. Communication was almost non-existent. On arrival, a 3 by 1.2 metre mirror had slipped off the wall smashing through 2 rooms. It took 5 hours for Fraser Coast Holiday Management to respond. They finish work at 4.30 pm and the emergency phone number they provided did not answer. It took 5 hours to get a response with the assistance of Airbnb. Then they moved us overnight into a much smaller unit. Next day they said we were in the new unit for the duration of our stay - unsuitable accommodation for our family with no financial compensation. We cancelled the rest of our stay with them and moved elsewhere (with assistance from Airbnb who stated that this was the only option that they recommended). Fraser Coast then sent nasty texts and sent a bill for $5000 to Airbnb alleging that we had somehow pulled the mirror off the wall the day after we vacated the unit. Photos, emails and texts between us and Airbnb and also photos date-stamped and sent to Fraser Coast evidence that we were not responsible as was the finding of Airbnb as well. We were totally exonerated on the actual evidence. I still have that evidence and happy to show it to anyone who wishes to verify this review. Also, this was not the first such mirror to fall off a wall in the building - a fact that Fraser Coast was aware of as they had received emails about the matter from the Pier One Body Corporate. Fraser Coast are an atrocious management company and I would not recommend that anyone stay in holiday accommodation managed by them.

Absolutely stunning. Would have liked to stayed longer and we will definitely stay here next time and recommend to friends. Its just wow. We were in apt #14 on the third floor. Amazing sunset and sunrise views from the balcony. absolutely loved the huge sliding windows in the main bedroom and lounge. we didnt pull the blinds down at all and were able to enjoy the sunrise from bed. Excellent shower. Location was awesome. few minutes walk to pier, 20 mins walk along walkway path to marina or 14km walk the other direction. coffee and restaurants a minutes walk away. Two duck next door was great for takeaways and we sat on the balcony of apartment at sunset with wine. it was clean, convenient and we even enjoyed a dip in the pool. ||Stunning ocean views.

*Unit 14 Pier One -YOU AREN'T ALLOWED VISITORS. PLEASE READ THEIR RULES CAREFULLY. This is for real at Unit 14, hosted by Margie. (Host as listed on VRBO)

*You will be charged $80 per visitor per day, even if the unit owner gives permission for the visitors. This wasn't for the visitors to sleep over. They were there on and off during the day, and went home to their own beds in the local area.

What was a great 3 days at Pier One, became very negative after our stay, and we'll never return. Maybe that's what the permanent residents/BC and the host of unit 14 want.

The rules/policies on their VRBO website state "NO VISITORS" Make sure you read that. It's genuine. First time EVER we have had a problem at holiday accommodation, where NO day visitors are permitted. (Other websites ie. Wotif, RentbyOwner etc that list the property say nothing about the No Visitor policy or a fee per visitor. So if you read the rules on another website, then go to book, it takes you to the VRBO site. So you don't get misled like us, RE-READ the rules again on the booking page).

We hadn't read that when booking and only saw it when the host SMS'd other info on the day of arrival. If we'd read this rule, we would NEVER have booked with her. Her SMS to us read "No non paying guests are permitted at the property without our knowledge". So we messaged back advising of our visitors for the next day.

We got permission from the host for family to visit, however, if you exit and enter the building numerous times in the day the permission was granted for, be aware that how many times you have your visitors enter and exit with you, is being monitored very closely by resident Body Corporate members. They must have been taking notes/counting, the whole 3 days we were there and then reported back to the host.

So if you take you visitors out for breakfast, come back, then take them out for lunch, come back, then go out for dinner, come back, and then they leave at 9pm, someone is monitoring your every exit and entry.

If you meet up with any friends or family, and they want to see your apartment, or use the loo, or you want to show genuine hospitality and make them a coffee, you'll have to say NO!! The host even replied to us that they "do think it’s unfair that visitors arrive and use a Hosts’ facilities at the Host’s expense" ?😲? We paid $350/day out of school holidays. So a few extra toilet flushes, and cup of coffee cost each visitor $80 per day

And you won't believe it.... THE HOST HAS CHARGED US $320 for our visitors (our own adult children and their wives)

Her note to us "there is no damage reported but as per our House Rules on the site .. visitors are charged $80pp ..as admitted you had visitors over 2 days so $160 x 2 days is $320. Regards Margie". This automatically gets taken off the credit card you paid with.

We've done further research, and discovered (through TripAdvisor) that the host has done similar with other guests. There is a camera outside the unit, so she may be watching your every move.

Her VRBO/Stayz page actually read ""No Visitors, pets or extra guests allowed during your stay. A penalty of $250 applies if breached plus $80 per guest per night" when we checked after receiving her extra charge message.

HOWEVER, this has now been changed to $80 per guest" after I told her that no day fees for visitors was stated. CHECK ANY PROPERTY RULES/POLICIES hosted by her, because she has six properties in Hervey Bay, and at least one other has a NO VISITOR rule.

Wonderful experience for staying at Pier One Apartments. Great location with beautiful view, nice and clean room, great facilities. Everything is perfect and we all family were very happy!
