Perisher Ski Resort - Perisher Valley, New South Wales

My family and I ski here every year and absolutely love this place. This season, I decided to purchase 5 advanced ski lessons just to tidy up my form and to improve my carving. I booked for the lessons to be at the same time every day and basically had the same people in the class all the way through. However, every day we had a different instructor who asked us what we wanted to focus on, rather than assessing what we need to do to improve. We had to relearn things we’d already gone over and teachers taught vastly different. This made it difficult to improve each day because we’d be focusing on something a little bit different rather than building upon knowledge from the day before. On the Friday they didn’t even offer an advanced class and I was stranded in a mixed ability group which didn’t necessarily cater to the more advanced skiers.
Most instructors were good, however I had three instructors who wouldn’t actually watch anyone ski enough to offer really tailored or personal advice.

Overall, I would still recommend lessons if anyone feels out of control, or even if they want to feel better about their skiing. Basically, everyone will get something out of it. However, it could be far more effective if one instructor was put on a specific level for the whole week.

Love having three full mountains included with the pass, with so many slopes to choose from.

The food and hot chocolates up the mountain are quite good.

Plus, they do night skiing twice a week also, oftentimes with fireworks mid way through it!

We recently embarked on a trip to Perisher to get some skiing/boarding into our legs (5 adults/5 young teens). Despite the fact that we did have lots of fun, pretty good snow & a great experience in general - bottom line is: What one gets for what one pays is not really balanced. The lift equipment is ancient (esp. charilifts without foot rests). Hospitality offerings on the mountain reminded me on the 80s. But especially ticket prices are mind blowing. 2 to 4 times what one would pay in modern proper ski ressorts overseas. 250+ dollars for a day pass is just too much.

"I had an incredible time snowboarding at Perisher Mountain! The variety of runs catered to all skill levels, from gentle slopes for beginners to challenging terrain for more advanced riders. The snow conditions were excellent, with fresh powder that made for a thrilling experience.

The lift system was efficient, minimizing wait times and allowing us to maximize our time on the slopes. I also appreciated the friendly staff and well-maintained facilities, including cozy lodges for warming up and grabbing a bite to eat.

The scenery was breathtaking, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Overall, Perisher is a fantastic destination for snowboarding, and I can't wait to return for more adventures!"

We had the pleasure of having Ben (Benoit Vidotto) as our private full day instructor on 03/08/2024.

We couldn't be more grateful for his exceptional patience and dedication. Despite our group of six having varying levels of experience, Ben ensured that each one of us received personalized attention and instruction. His ability to teach us with such care and perseverance, especially while navigating the challenging slopes, was truly remarkable. Ben's professionalism and expertise have made our skiing experience unforgettable. We wholeheartedly believe he is an outstanding instructor.

They call this place Perisher because your money just perishes. Bring lots of money with you because you will pay through your teeth for everything. Arranged lessons for my beginner level children and they claim that it is mandatory to pay for lift tickets even though they don’t use the chair lifts. I disputed this charge and basically their response was “too bad”!! The cost for two hour lessons with non use of the chair lift was $600. What a scam!! Other scams prices was the price of a hot chocolate $10, a small muffin $12, small hot chips $10.

The Perisher provided trainer for the lessons was called Paddy and he was extremely poor in teaching my kids. He lacked patience and wasn’t very clear in explaining the techniques. I could see as I was watching the entire time that other members from the group were getting extremely upset at the trainer.

To conclude I won’t be visiting the area ever again as it’s just a money making scheme and the snow is gradually getting lesser and lesser each year. The snow report prior to heading to Perisher was “expected snow fall over night with cloud and gusty winds” when we arrived on the day it was clear with no wind and no snow falls which is another lie/scam the Perisher website cons you to visit.

Almost always understaffed, crowd coordination is very poor. It's almost like they are surprised to have huge crowds when there's a decent amount of snow in the forecast. Lifts never open on time when there's snow. The social media team always posts about how good conditions are even when they know lifts are 2 hours delayed, and crowds are already forming. Time and time again, Vail resorts fails to organise appropriately or communicate with their customers that pay good money to ski.

The largest ski resort in Australia (and I think the southern hemisphere) Perisher has it all. For those skiing here it offers terrain for all standards from beginners to advanced and is most likely to have snow cover at the beginning and end of the season. Plenty of on-snow accommodation or you can stay in Jindabyne and drive up or catch the ski tube.

In terms of things that could be improved, on-snow dining is probably number one. Options are limited and expensive and having more food outlets away from Front Valley would be a help. Otherwise, see you on Towers on Mt P!
