The Oscars cafe and bar have a great range on their menu. I felt like the food looks generous but it could have had a bit more flavour. Prices are typical for brunch/ breakfast. I lived here I would frequent often. Coffee was perfect.

Oscars is a popular spot for locals, and as the name suggests, it is movie themed, but happily not overly so.
Parking is out the front, and there is an abundance of seating, both inside and outside under cover.

Service was prompt and friendly, and both the coffee and meal were served in a reasonable timeframe, though I noticed some of the takeaway coffee customers seemed to wait a while for their morning fix.
Coffee was delicious, though I'm no connoisseur, so am unable to confirm that it is as world-class as some of the locals claim.

Really, the only peeve was the breakfast, and only a small part of that.
The scrambled eggs were overdone and rubbery. With so many easy ways of making scrambled eggs delicious and creamy, this is just careless.
With the egg 'flakes' also scraped onto the plate, it was obvious the pan was too hot, and the cook does not know how to cook (or present) eggs.
It may sound elitist, but making good eggs really improves a meal, and only takes a bit of cream or mayonnaise to be added.
It's super easy to do, and your customers will rave about them.

The second peeve was the baked beans. I love baked beans.
I do not love salsa with some baked beans stirred in.
By all means serve that, but let the customer know beforehand, as the taste is completely different.

Now, these really are minor peeves, and do not detract from the fact I was served promptly and professionally, with hot food and coffee, at a reasonable price.
Whilst I may not order the eggs again, it won't stop me from going back to Oscars to try their poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes), and it shouldn't stop you either.

After an early morning of driving we stopped in Mackay for breakfast. We forgot it was ANZAC day, so much was closed. Oscars was great. Good coffee, generous breakfast sizes. I ordered breakie 1 with a side of avo. Delicious, hearty meals cooked the way we asked. We would like to thank you for turning the music down when we asked. We realized we were sitting under the booming bass and felt bad for asking, but we hadn't had our coffee to wake up yet! ☺️

I dined with a table of 3. The waitress seemed very attentive at first until we weren't ready for our meals and asked for another 5 minutes. The waitress came back outside multiple times but never came to our table. We waited another 15 minutes before she came back to us. Then the meals took a while to come out aswell which is concerning as the cafe was bascially empty with only a few other tables filled.

I ordered the only labelled vegan option on the menu and they didn't have it available which was very disappointing. I ordered the vege burger instead (which is apparently vegan but not labelled vegan on the menu). I made it sure the meal contained no macadamia nuts as I am allergic but I still had a reaction to the beetroot hummus on the burger and couldn't eat half of it.

The burger was very average. It tasted like all the components were either out of a bottle or cooked from frozen. It lacked a lot of flavour. The chips were undercooked and unseasoned. The other people I dined with were disappointed in their meals aswell.

I guess I was expecting more from a cafe that is locally loved.

Never had Smashed Avocado 🥑🥑🥑🥑 before and asked the waitress to give me the best you can get. So delicious. Avocado with egg, fetta, and toast. The girls working there were so friendly. Makes me sick.... No one is that happy at work. Definitely 5 star experience.

Searched pet friendly and it was, thank god 😊 waitresses were very friendly. Coffee was average however partner and I are coffee snobs. Food was good however adding mushrooms extra for $4 and only getting 2 seems overpriced. Sourdough was huge (partner had it) w oiuld definitely select that.
Wait time was very quick even though its mothers day - impressive 👌

Full marks to young staff member who managed orders for food and coffee/tea promptly and efficiently, when we had lunch recently with a group of 20 plus people. Meals were delivered promptly and were delicious. The serves here are huge in fact.
A problem with incorrect charges for one meal payment was sorted immediately by management as soon as they were made aware. We will be back.
