A beautiful old building as interesting and beautiful as the small town of New Norfolk that it is built in.
Thank you Penelope and your husband for allowing us the pleasure of staying with you in your quaint, warm and elegant guest room.
Experience the way life was like way back when. Climb the narrow and steep staircase (that transports you to a time of years gone by) or access the top landing via an external sandstone pathway (no stairs) that lead you to your room(s).
Relish in the experience of the high ceilings, recessed attic windows (overlooking the courtyard and gardens with the view afar of the mountains that surround) and turn the light on by the cord hanging from the ceiling.
The property boasts the most eclectic and beautiful pieces of art, purchased and or painted by Penelope the host.
She is insightful not only about the artists of the paintings adorning the walls but also of the Greater Hobart area, the people and the history. Was lovely to listen to the stories and information she had to share.
The tastiest and nutritious breakfast to start ones day was served to us in front of the open fire that warmed the area nicely. So delicious was breakfast, we stopped off on the way home to purchase similar to replicate it.
We highly recommend when you are next looking for accommodation in this area, to give the Old Colonial Inn a try. I assure you that this will not disappoint.

The new owners have had this residence for two years and are slowly renovating the place. If you were to judge the place from the outside, you’d be thinking twice. Outside needs a good clean and landscaping.
But having said that, our room was comfortable, our bed was cosy and our room was clean.
Our highlight was the beautiful breakfast that Penelope put on. She is a lovely hostess.
**Do yourself a favour and visit “The Bush Inn” for great food - which is a one minute walk away**

Enjoyed the stay, historical building, old world charm in New Norfolk.| BUT not wheel chair friendly, parking in the street on a steep hill, challenging access. |Host was accommodating & friendly, cooked a nice breakfast for a person with type 2 diabetes.

Wonderful host, great breakfast, beautiful room. The place is under new management, so you can tell the character of the place is changing. Still, Penelope is doing a wonderful job!

We had an amazing and very comfortable stay. Penelope was so friendly and we were so appreciative of the last minute booking. The breakfast was scrumptious and so fresh! The rooms were comfortable and clean and the garden was beautiful. Would definitely recommend.

The room was excellent. loved the ambience, Penelope is a wonderful host, I felt absolutely at home. Her breakfasts were just yummy!!....enjoyed our conversations immensely...and the skate boarding dog was the icing on the cake!!!! Will return anytime I can. I would recommend this place with more than 5 stars if it were possible.

Great place to stay! Lovely rooms (completely refurbished by the new owner) tastefully and decorated by lovely artworks (both were art teachers!). Lovely breakfast, friendly owners, and just around the corner of the town best pub 🙂

Wonderful stay, Penelope helped us out with accommodation at last minute and it was the perfect stay. Very affordable, excellent breakfast and hospitality. Historically significant building was a bonus (built circa 1835). Thoroughly recommended. Check out the local Saturday markets too.
