Odeon HOBART hosted an evening with Bob Geldof.
What surprised me was that Sir Bob - a good Irishman - accepted the knighthood but I digress.
What also surprised me was that Bob graced Hobart with his presence.
The Odeon is a quaint venue and a far cry from Live Aid and the huge crowds.
But here we were far from the madding crowd with a true legend of the 70’s and 80’s music era.
Bob has an ease and a style that overtakes you and wraps you in his wonderful stories.
He is a giant in his field and personifies the term connector. He opens doors, opens minds and hearts and has made a lasting impression on the world. And did on me last night.
The night was a joyous sometimes melancholic rambling through his life.
In short it was,as a friend said to me, a privilege.
When someone shouted “what can we do in Tasmania to make a difference”
A particularly laconic Bob replied don’t ask me I just did what I could and so should you.
Brilliant.

A superb venue, purpose built for rock avec roll. Just the right size too. Reminds me of the Enmore in Sydney, but with seats. Any band worthy of love plays here. The staff, including the security staff are excellent to a person. It’s relaxed, friendly and safe. But not SO safe it feels like you’re being treated like a naughty child.
There’s upstairs and downstairs, both doing their job superbly. Site lines are all good. No strange poles blocking views, just happy punters digging on the bands. Hobart audiences are a fun loving lot, and just the right level of rowdy. Bands put out what the audience put in, and audiences here definitely put in.
I wouldn’t want to see a band anywhere else.

Tassie's best rock venue? If not, pretty close. Fantastic tiered amphitheatre in the centre of Hobart and what better way to indulge my virgin Odeon experience than with the mighty Dirty Three on 26/6/24!! AWESOME 👏 👏 👏

It's a great venue, but the noise coming from the Hanging Garden next door takes away from the artist you've paid to see. Owned by the same people, that should get sorted.
