The team at Newtown Cozy Stays are just lovely, they provide excellent customer service. The owner personally took care of us when there was an issue at check in. The staff (especially Deeana) looked after my partner and I during our 2 week stay, made us feel at home.
The rooms are basic, clean and comfortable. The location perfect for getting anywhere in Sydney with buses almost right at the door.
Thank you to the team at Cozy Stays for making us feel so welcome.

Checked in on 1st December at 2pm, and due to check out on 4th December at 10.30am.

I wasnt going to give a bad review of this place but too much has happened.

1. Aircon makes the loudest noise ever and I'm generally a heavy sleeper but Jesus Christ it was so loud I thought it was roadworks outside.

2. On my first night, I wanted to use the ensuite toilet before heading to bed, and when I opened the door, a cockroach (Andy) ran past my foot. I tried to kill it but it went down the floorboards between the bed area and the toilet. I thought I'd head down to reception to ask for cockroach spray, but once I opened the bedroom door, I saw ANOTHER COCKROACH (Bob) . So I aborted mission and tried to sleep with the aircon and lights on (but only had 3 hours of sleep because Andy was still in the room.

3. The next morning I was both tired and in fear. When I left the room, I saw Bob again. He was flipped upside down in front of my door, and I thought he was dead. I WAS WRONG HE WAS ALIVE AND KICKING

4. I had to buy roach traps to survive the next 2 nights. The reception lady Deana(?) was also nice to offer me insecticide and a room change. But... we know cockroaches arent just limited to the room they are in.

5. Last night, I saw another 2 cockroaches, Charles and Dan. Charles was next to the toilet seat and Dan was hiding behind a pipe. Oh my god

6. Today's the day to check out. Like I said, I wasn't going to give a bad review. But check out time is 10.30am - it is currently 9.30am and housekeeping suddenly opens my door as I'm lying in bed. Wtf?¿ I didn't even have the thing hanging on the door.

Avoid this place if you care about your sanity.

“We enjoyed the hotel. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The location is fun, and you can walk along the vintage shops. The rooms are comfortable, and the shower is excellent. It’s a hotel I would recommend to my friends.”

The rooms themselves are really barebones, but you get what you pay for. Some things that stood out were: no hand soap, no hand towel, no bath mat and no toilet brush. The fridge is quite small and filled with mini bar items which cost $5. Whatever we put on the upper layer of the fridge ended up freezing, including our milk. Also, at one point the water stopped working and suddenly came back, temporarily with brown water. The customer service team was helpful and friendly and room attendants freshened up our room very nicely upon request.

Bathroom had loads of mould on the walls. It’s not hard to see either it’s everywhere. Aircon made horrible noises and stopped working (or didn’t work at all). So the room was hot and stuffy. Beds were alright though.

I was very disappointed in my stay. I booked from Canada weeks in advance and was promised a room with a balcony. When I called from the airport just after 9 pm I was told there was a $30 late check in fee, no shuttle to the hotel, which it had advertised, and my room with the balcony had been booked to someone else- no apologies or discount for all these disappointments. The woman at reception was rude, unwelcoming and argumentative. I was jet-lagged and exhausted but she kept me standing for almost half an hour at check in, seeming resentful at the presence of my daughter and me. The room was over $100 per night, with a bathroom at the end of the hall. I was charged $5. for a small bottle of water at checkout. I would never recommend anyone stay there.

The place is very nice, but the staff are very bad except for the 2 receptionist guys who served us, and the rest, 2 asians and cleaning staff are very bad.

Mid October 2023 I booked on line a room for December 1 2023 and received my confirmation. Mid November the hotel called to say they did not have my room available any more as it was fully booked. How does there booking system work? Maybe they are selling the rooms for a better price? Booking system would seem to be a bit of a shambles. BEWARE
