This is our second stay at this iconic Townsville Hotel at the top end of Flinders Street. Once again Richard was a lovely host and we enjoyed the views from the sweeping verandas. The location is excellent and it's excellent value for money!

Magsit “Magsit”

Looks closed and shut for business, no physical signage outside the premises about what is going on. No information on google maps or facebook. Considering across the road is the Great Northern Hotel and it is pretty much all boarded up, one can only assume these places are closed for business. Given that the latest Social Media update about the place is from 2016 and the manager responds poorly via google reviews it is no wonder it is quiet.

Stayed for a night on the 13th July on a work trip. The rooms are very nice and well kept, and the hotel is neat and clean. Some rooms are without an attached toilet, however the common amenities are maintained in an immaculate condition. Good ambience overall, lots of friendly folks to talk to in the common area (balcony) and the host is a very hospitable and friendly person. Overall good value for money and the location is pretty awesome!

Townsville CBD Stay
Located on the corner of Flinders Street & Blackwood Street, this newly renovated hotel is a fabulous option for a Townsville CBD stay. The rooms have been carefully renovated to a high standard and there are sweeping verandas, beautiful wooden floors and a basic kitchenette in the common area. We chose to stay in a ensuite double room with air conditioning and it was clean, spacious and comfortable. The verandas were perfect for afternoon drinks and breakfast!! Richard, the on-site manager, was super friendly and hospitable and gave us a tour of the hotel bars and restaurants which are still undergoing renovation. This is like staying in old-fashioned pub accommodation but with modern amenities. It’s great value and highly recommended!

The location is great, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the verandas make a very special place to spend the evenings, and the historical architecture is something else... But it's Richard, the manager, who makes this place really unique. The nicest person I've met in Australia. He's not only a conscientious manager but also a good person, ready to go that extra mile to give his guests a hand. So, thank you, Richard and Newmarket hotel, for your help.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. Quiet, clean rooms and a beautiful balcony- and the best part is the owner Richard. He went so above and beyond to make me comfortable there, and even gave me a ride where I needed to go. Can’t recommend this place more highly.

Great service with fantastic food. It was quite busy and my table was given a 45 minute wait on our food (mainly steaks) but we had them within 30 minutes cooked exactly how our table of 6 wanted them. Food pricing was higher than normal but well worth it. Also they have a great price on their liquor. $7 for a Jack and coke! Very satisfied.
