Appreciate that they are helping travellers with free showers and campspot. For this reason I wanted to support them and ordered food, wish I hadn't.

Sent a message to management 2 weeks ago about seriously rude staff member and no response.

My message:

Hi, I just wanted to contact you about my experience last night, unfortunately it isn't a positive one so I wanted to reach out to management privately first instead of writing a public review.

I came to use the free camp, so with that I wanted to give some business instead of just taking a free spot. I came in for a drink in the afternoon after my shower (which was great by the way). Later in the evening I went in to order takeaway garlic bread and onion rings to snack on in my van.

I was given a food buzzer and waited around the till/ food drop area. I was holding the buzzer for a while and the staff were quite attentive, I had all of them ask if I had been served and I replied I'm all good and showed them all the buzzer in my hand. I ended up set the buzzer down in front of me so it was more obvious as staff were busy and I didn't want them all to keep stopping what they were doing to talk to me. A bit later 2 of the girls (possibly french? They both had dark hair) pointing at the buzzer and talking but I didn't know what about as I couldn't hear. I just thought maybe they were checking on the order as at this point it had been about 20-25 minutes of waiting.

Eventually I asked the girl in the black t shirt (possibly french, dark hair, bigger build) how long it would be and she seemed surprised that the buzzer was mine and asked quite rudely why it was just there. I replied "because I'm standing here with it, it's right in front of me but it hasn't buzzed yet". She said well they're busy and they didn't know who it belonged to - which is hard to believe when I hadn't left it alone at all, but as it hadn't buzzed yet I didn't see what the issue was. She didn't really explain anything and just told me I had to wait longer." Something must have caused a delay with food as they were confused by the buzzer, but they didn't explain what.

Before I could ask for a timeline or ask what had happened she'd moved on to the next customer already.

After a few minutes I managed to get the attention of an Irish girl wearing green and I asked her if I could get a timeline because at this point it had been a 30 minute wait just for garlic bread and onion rings. Before she could find out the girl in the black t shirt girl interrupted and was really quite rude. She said she had already told me and not to ask someone else. I replied that she hadn't told me a timeline or explained what's gone wrong, she'd just said I had to wait, and if I'd been told when I ordered that the wait was going to be 40 minutes I wouldn't have ordered. She snapped back at me really quite rudely so I felt I couldn't have any constructive conversation with her to find out what had happened.

The wait ended up being 45 minutes with no communication from staff, apart from the rude snaps I got from this particular girl behind the bar.

I understand it was a busy night and I work in hospo so I get it, but if staff had just said up front what the wait time was, or explained what had gone wrong with my buzzer (obviously something had but they weren't telling me) I would have felt better - they just need to manage expectations and in the case of the girl in the black t shirt, be much less rude and just advise what is happening.

It's a great place to stay overnight. Or to stay for a week if you work in one of the mines

The ladies working in here are lovely. Very nice to you and helpful. Have you ever heard the saying, “it’s hard to f up a chicken palmy’? Well it’s not hard for this place. The Chicken was drier than a weekend in Middlemount and the flavour of it was especially heinous. The gravy smelled funny and the whole meal was tasty as a mine site urinal cake.

Staff could dress better and be a touch more friendly, service is slow and meals are extremely slow have waited for over an hour for meals. And the kitchen has shut off catering at times. Only go there as there is one other place to eat out at in town.

If you don’t mind a pub that is filthy, no air conditioning to speak of, a menu that has not changed in years and food that is dry as the Simpson desert then this is your place. Potholes in the car park as deep as Middlemount mine grounds that require you to take your whipper Snipper to get through

An old gal in need of some serious surgery.. I would avoid the pub especially on CQ hot and humid days unless you have a penchant for cold beer in a hot 🥵 environment. Bar service was with an Irish touch in an outback town. Pleasant enough. 😀

Had yet another fantastic meal
Friday night footy on so got to watch the game ...

Camped out the back for free.
We like to support small towns and especially mining towns struggling so will always do a lunch , or fill up or shop to help .
Love the inland areas .

Although the service was very good, very friendly and helpful staff I had the opportunity to tried the worst chicken schnitzel in my life, it was totally burn. I though maybe the chef was having a bad day so the next day I order the same again and what a mistake haha, I don’t know how the chef don’t realise about it, or he just doesn’t care as it is probably the only option in town.
