The hotel is built in some old buildings including an orphanage. Sure it has a horror film vibe but that's quite cool. The rooms and public areas integrally are dated in stuck in thr 1980s from presumably when it was concrete to a hotel. Broken mirrors in the room. Breakfast was very poor. The fruit looked dodgy and the pineapple juice was off.

Spent a night there before heading to Pokolbin and it was just so weird!! It's a cool historical building on the outside, however the inside needs a major renovation. It was a mix of grand/asian/greek style, with mix match furniture that did not go well together. The decor is awful. The place is not inviting at all. The bar area was not operating, plus everything was covered with sheets, there was no where to just relax and enjoy a drink. It's a shame, as the location is not too bad if you are visiting Maitland.
Breakfast "buffet" was $18 and it only included bread and jam. Did not stay for breakfast.
This is not a 4 start hotel.
Also, could be haunted, really creepy.

I cannot recommend Daniel at the Mercure Maitland enough. His care for his customer is second to none. We were late to check in and with a booking made incorrectly (by me 6 months from the date i wanted) he was able fix everything up and ensured we had somewhere to stay after a 6 hour drive.
I will happily stay here again after my experience.

The room I booked didnt look anything like the pictures online. It was absolutely freezing and only 2 thin hospital grade sheets on the bed so it was so cold! The room service/restaurant food was pretty poor effort for the price, couldn't have more than a mouthful of the soup and salmon wasn't flash. The venue was a nice building unfortantly thats all I can say about my stay here.

Ok, so I read many reviews that caused me to bypass Mercure Monte Pio Maitland over and over in many stays in the area.
This time, the love of my life booked here for me, as our desire to see the old building was stronger than the negative reviews.
All I can say is, ignore the negative reviews. They are wrong, wrong, and wrong.
The place is beautiful, the staff are lovely, the rooms are lovely.
Everything is lovely and clean.
The only disappointment is that it’s apparently not haunted!!!

We had previously read the reviews and had concerns. But we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were very large and comfortable. The bed, sheets and pillows were great. There were lots of modern conveniences such as pods machines and a well equipped bathroom. Yes the hotel was dated but it was clearly a heritage building. Staff were friendly and it was so peaceful. Definitely recommended.

When we arrived, we thought that we might have made a mistake booking here. But to our surprise, the place was great. It had a "vintage " feel, but it was well maintained. We've stayed at newer hotels in worse condition. The room had a few cosmetic issues, but it was clean and had a newly renovated bathroom. So it was perfect for what we needed it for. If I'm ever in Maitland again, I would stay here.

I read that the place is haunted because of its past. But I (unfortunately) didn't see a ghost.

Have stayed here a few times now and always disappointing. Wont stay again.which we have said before but thought things may change but sadly no.It maybe better with new management but I doubt that will happen. In the past we have been told all sorts of rubbish excuses as to why the restaurant wasn't open from fires to gas leaks all bull excuses. When the restaurant is open the food isn't nice it seems to be so spicy its not edible. There is no recognition of Accor platinum member status at all. Other Mercure properties are way better managed and run.
