I went to this cafe for brunch on Sunday, and honestly, the food was very disappointing. I can’t believe I paid $56 for what I got.
First of all, the place was clearly understaffed. No one gave me a menu, so I had to use the QR code printed on the front door to view the menu. I saw pumpkin fritters listed, served with smoked salmon, two poached eggs, and spinach salsa, so I ordered that. But when the food came out, it was nothing like what was described.
The presentation looked like something homemade, not what you'd expect from a cafe. The fritters were dry and bland, there was only one poached egg, and no smoked salmon. The “salad” was just a bit of spinach, a few chopped tomatoes, and spring onion, mixed with a white dressing. When I asked the waitress, she said the QR code was linked to an old menu that hadn’t been updated.
I also ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and toast ($12) for my daughter. The toast was just plain supermarket white bread with no butter, and the scrambled eggs were dry. My daughter only ate some of the eggs, everything else was left untouched.
Honestly, the food was not worth the money. Based on my experience, I won’t be coming back.

We stumbled across this spot on the weekend because we were looking for a dog friendly cafe. The staff were lovely and the food was really great. They made us latte art on the coffee after our doggie which we really appreciated the detail.

We sat outside because of our dog but because we were on a main road it ended up being quite loud.

My partner had the southern fried chicken burger and I had the mason lane club sandwich. Both were delicious.

Overall I would recommend this place. The inside of the cafe was really cosy so I would suggest sitting inside if you can. Staff were also nice and friendly.

Don't let the slightly tired interior fool you. Top-notch brekkie with a solid old school vibe - not fancy just delicious! My Just Eggs with sides was exactly what I hoped for.

First visit to Mason Lane Cafe. Treated myself to a very late brunch egg florentine but was disappointed with my meal. I was hungry so ate it as I didn’t want to make a fuss. The bread was not toasted, stale and soggy from the soggy spinach on top of it. The poached eggs were cooked well. The Hollandaise tasted good but had a thick somewhat weird/lumpy texture. The earl grey tea was good.

The male cook or kitchen-hand handed me my meal without a word or smile. The front female staff was warm and welcoming. She asked about my meal when I approached her to pay, so I thought it best to provide her with honest feedback. Her initial reply was ‘Oh, we got the bread yesterday (I didn’t reply). I’m sorry about that. We will need to be more careful.’ Nil remediation offered. I paid full cost for my brunch.

In addition, the salt shaker was sticky and the cafe had an old oil smell permeating from the kitchen so I’m guessing the cooking oil is not changed often - I should have taken heed of this and gone elsewhere.

I visited this place on multiple occasions, and while the coffee and overall atmosphere were impressive, my experience with the staff was a bit mixed.

Let's start with the coffee, which I must say was exceptional. Each cup was expertly brewed, delivering a delightful caffeine kick that left me wanting more.

Regarding the place itself, it provided a pleasant environment. The ambiance was cozy and enjoyable, contributing to a relaxing coffee-drinking experience. I would give it a 4/5 rating.

However, my encounter with the staff during my third visit left me slightly disappointed. I ordered a Cappuccino, but to my surprise, it was served with sugar, despite my request for it to be sugar-free. When I asked for a replacement, the staff seemed reluctant and dismissive, suggesting that the sugared Cappuccino was the norm. They offered to make a Flat White instead, which left me feeling like the responsibility to accommodate my preferences was placed on me. It would have been better if they had acknowledged the mistake and promptly made a new Cappuccino as requested. This aspect of my experience warrants a 3/5 rating for the staff.

Note: Please keep in mind that this review reflects my personal experience, and others may have different interactions with the staff.
