Macleay St Bistro is a solid choice for French cuisine in a refined setting. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between elegant and comfortable.

Their French onion soufflé was a standout - definitely worth trying. The eye fillet was cooked perfectly, and the chocolate truffles made for a satisfying end to the meal. Overall, the food quality was consistently fantastic across all dishes.

The staff were attentive, polite and friendly, which further added to the experience.

It's a great spot for special occasions or when you're in the mood for a nicer dinner out. If you enjoy French food, Macleay St Bistro is worth considering.

Fantastic French Feast❤️
White table clothes and stylish restaurant. Lovely decor brings memories of France. Clever seating with tables for six, four and some well placed intimate spots for dates. Has a couple of tables outside which looked nice.
Good cocktails and the food was excellent highly recommend the French onion soup, duck, steak and chicken. The deserts were delicious crepe with orange sauce.
Service unobtrusive but efficient.
This is a place to enjoy, relax no pushy waiting staff no trying to rush you in and out just pure pleasure in dining.
Highly ( and I’m a hard marker) recommend this restaurant.
Dates go here with confidence it’s impressive. We were able to have a conversation without shouting and restaurant was busy, acoustics good.
Love your local guide- M❤️

Birthday reservation for my partner…
Arrived 6:50pm, waited & met by a waiter obviously not interested in our arrival! Sat in a corner underneath some cobwebs I hadn’t noticed, but my partner had ?

Waited on by Gateon, who literally showed us no enthusiasm other than our presence was a bother to him!

1st course was amazing, definitely recommend the scallop starter. (See pic). Also the Salmon Tartar & the French Onion Soup were quite special… the Duck as our main left us chewing for ages & wishing we’d chose another dish!

Then, suddenly & quite surprising a baby cockroach made a dash clear across our table ?. My partner simply brushed it off with the menu we kept for cocktail options, I was shocked but hey… we’re in the Cross!

Overall we felt like this venue cared only for its regulars & if they don’t know you they don’t care about you! Sadly, we are also the locals! Will we return, will we recommend ? It’s a hard NO from us.

First of all, I don’t normally write reviews about places I eat. However, this one is definitely a worthy mention.
I am visiting Sydney for the first time from the USA and I was in search for an amazing French restaurant. Upon checking a few places online and reading reviews, I came across what is now in my opinion the best French restaurant I’ve ever tried.
Once I tasted the dirty grey goose martini made by Mr Stefano I knew the dining experience at MacLeay Bistro was going to surpass my expectations. The salmon tartare was so fresh and hit all the right the notes that tingled all my tastebuds. The garlic prawns bisque was an absolute hit, especially with my partner. We loved it!
The oysters were delicious and tasted fresh as the ocean. The triple-baked soufflé was to die for. It was creamy, rich and better than any other soufflé I’ve tasted before.
After all this delicious food, we couldn’t wait to taste our main courses. Mr Stefano once again recommended something divine. I went with the Salmon and I was happy I did. The skin was crispy and the salmon was melting in my mouth. My partner decided to go with the Eye fillet that was cooked to perfection. We had so much fun and are so much, unfortunately there was no room for dessert. But, I guess it’s a good thing, because we have a reason to come back as soon as possible. The staff was super friendly, professional and really enhanced our fine-dining experience. Needless to say, we highly recommend you trying MacLeay St Bistro. Be sure to tell Mr Stefano “ciao” and enjoy your experience. Cheers

It has to be one of the most enjoyable dinners I've had. Fantastic ambience, food and wine. Staffs are very engaging, they take you to a journey of a memorable dining experience just like being in France. Highly recommend this French bistro in the Paris end of Potts Point.

The classic French menu never changes but the recent move to new premises down the road has uplifted this Sydney dining institution even higher.

Some best ofs here include the best Creme Brulee in Sydney. Twice cooked cheese souffle. Pan seared duck breast. And a very fine Steak Tartare...

This is a small cosy establishment. I think it might be too small for its popularity. But it might what lent to its warmth and cosiness.
Nothing remarkable about its cocktails.
The chicken liver parfait is one of the best in Sydney I've ever tasted. The texture was very smooth and it was full-flavoured. The serving was generous and we had to ask for another serving of accompanying bread. The fresh bread itself warrants its own review: it came very soft, fresh and buttered.
Their famous Chateaubriand steak did not fail to impress. It was very tender, juicy and well-flavoured. The accompanying green beans and potatoes were equally well cooked and tasted good on their own.
The profiteroles did not keep up with our entree and main, but it was still pretty good. I liked that it was not too sweet - just right.?
Service was good, too - attentive, friendly, prompt and accurate.
