!!! Do not go for a gig!!! We are so sad that something as fun as cambo, where we saw hundreds of various great shows, has been replaced with this cesspit. The ā€œband roomā€ is a reverberating narrow brick hallway with a narrow stage, you’ll be looking at shoulders all night, upstairs balcony is the same unless you arrive at doors and get lucky for a railing. Not even sold out feels very over capacity. The smell was also a bit overpowering upon entry. This should be a not be a major live music venue for Newcastle - I’ve missed a few shows last year just because of this place, gave it another go this week and yep- pinned to a brick wall in a noise vacuum- couldn’t even hear the band.
There is no where to catch a breather or stand back and enjoy the show if you aren’t up for a pit.
Newy deserves so much better than this.

Great venue, watched a gig in the band room. Had a good look around the rest of the venue which was awesome as well. Can't fault it. The sound and lights atmosphere were awesome, and I could see the stage clearly from all of the venue. Staff super friendly. Drink prices were respectable. Will definitely be attending more gigs here . Highly recommend visiting.

Let me preface this by saying I’ve been to some heinous places in my life dive bars, sticky-floored clubs, a Port-a-Loo at Splendour but nothing, and I mean nothing, prepared me for the foul, nostril assaulting hellscape that is King St Hotel.

Sure, the prices are decent. Until you realise each sip is a countdown to forgetting you’re voluntarily standing in what smells like a possum died in a bin of old seafood and shame.

I walked in and was immediately hit with a wave of air so pungent it physically pushed me back. I’m talking the scent of rotting guts, sweaty regret, and spilled dreams, with just a hint of Lynx Africa to really finish you off. It’s like they bottled the consequences of every bad decision made there since 2005 and set it loose on the dancefloor.

Every inhale was an act of war against my lungs. My eyes watered. My soul left my body. A friend gagged. Another dry-heaved and said it smelled like Satan’s colon after a night at Taco Bell.

Decent prices, yes. But if you value your nostrils, your dignity, or your will to live, I’d suggest lighting your money on fire instead, it’s cleaner, smells better, and lasts just as long.

Really great venue to see a gig at, it was really easy to get a full view of the stage. The queue was quick and well managed. There were also decently priced drinks and clean bathrooms inside.

This is the most foul smelling place I have ever encountered in the context of any hospitality venue. The place should be closed just off the potent smell. The band room is not equipped for any gig. During our gig we could hear terrible club doof doof music over powering the music that we paid to hear. The bartenders on the side of the band room were making obnoxious loud noises that was disrupting the flow of music as it was a quiet set. It’s a disgusting place that needs to be improved idk how it would pass health quality and safety standards. I guess if you were off your face this place would be tolerable

There is a stench at King Street Hotel that clings to the soul like smoke from a cursed fire. It isn't just the reek of sweat, alcohol, and stale regret — it's something deeper, fouler, as if the walls themselves are steeped in the sulphuric rot of hell. The air carries a pungency so vile it feels alive, a rancid sewerage aroma that crawls up the nose and scorches the nostril hairs, leaving a bitter aftertaste of doom. It's not just a smell — it’s an omen, a warning, an invisible fog of dread that seeps into your skin and whispers that this place is wrong. Something evil lingers here, and it doesn’t want you to leave clean.

Fantastic show at a fun venue, the atmosphere is great, the warehouse has a really cool "balcony" if you want to avoid the chaos of the mosh. Staff are friendly and helpful. Fully recommend.

Great venue. Small enough that you can meet the bands after. I saw the Dune Rats with Cheap Trick and Le Shiv. 17/3/24 The drinks weren't crazily priced either
