Kevin listened to my hair colour concerns from recent experiences with other hairdressers. He gave me exactly the colour I wanted, for a fair price. His wife styled my hair beautifully. Excellent service. Happy to support local small businesses!

I don’t recommend Kevin’s salon as a first choice hair dresser at all, last option, maybe.

I came in for a cut and colour with my mum. We decided to just get a cut and after numerous times of Kevin saying how dead and dry my hair was, once was enough thanks Kev.

The salon only takes cash payments, which is fine, however, it was not specified at booking of appointment.

My mum went and got the money out and while she was out, Kevin began washing my hair. It began with some small talk like if I’m still in school and brought me to the salon, until he asked if I had any siblings (completely normal question), in which I responded, yes, Kevin continues to say, and I am paraphrasing, “oh I thought you were an only child, your a spoiled girl, your mum brings you here” WHAT… at this point I was in awe and just wanted my hair cut and to leave. He also kept referring to my mum and I as western people and saying oh I don’t see many western people with this… or not many western people do/look like that… and So forth. Just thought it was unnecessary.

When my mum got back and be began trimming my hair, he said it again, that I’m a spoiled girl. Kevin, if I was a spoiled girl my mum would take me somewhere nice to get my hair done instead of a shonky last minute home salon in an estate because it was the only place that had available bookings same day.

Now to the service itself, I got a trim and a style. I said not too much off but the amount he took off was unnoticeable and my hair looked the exact same, not worth the money. The curling process was painful because of hair pulling and over all roughness, the outcome of the curls weren’t too bad but it was on a rainy day and they fell out pretty quick (not Kevin’s fault, Mother Nature did me dirty on the one).

Overall, not a great experience and it was not worth the money. I’d rather just wait until a real salon has availabilities. Lesson learnt. Thanks Kev 🫡

I do not recommend Kevin. I asked for a trim of 1cm on length of hair, and same for fringe. Was horrified when Kevin cut 1.5 inches off my fringe and the length of my hair. No apology was given for ignoring what I had requested. He laughed and told me not to get upset. When asked why he hadn't done what I'd asked he said he cut extra off because he thought long hair would be annoying. I left the salon with a fringe sitting well above my eyebrows like a school girl and a bob haircut that was hideous. Never going back.

Got my hair chemically straightened at Kevin's, based on a friend's recommendation who had her hair chemically straightened there once.

The first time, I was happy. Decided to go back to Kevin's the next time I wanted my hair chemically straightened (though I'd moved to Lockyer Valley on a secondment), given I knew they'd do a good job.

The second time, the treatment did not work. I went back to show them it hadn't worked and they agreed it hadn't. They said they will fix it for me. However, they wouldn't give me a regular business hour appointment because they did not want to lose business from 'paying' customers.

They gave me an appointment for 6.30am on a Sunday morning (two weeks away), though I explained that I no longer lived in Forest Lake and I have to travel from Lockyer Valley. He didn't seem to care that I had to travel so early in the morning to make it for such an early appointment to let them fix 'their error' for a service I'd already paid for. He only kept saying 'i hope you understand' and wouldn't listen/care for my request to give me an appointment at at least 8am.

Kevin explained that his wife will leave the chemical on for an extra half hour to ensure it works. It definitely worked, however, I lost a lot of hair over the next two months and my hair smelled like strong chemicals for a very long time.

I went back to him a few times to have post hair-strengthening hairwash treatments as recommended by Kevin's wife, hoping the hairfall would stop. However, it did nothing. Further, I had other issues with Kevin -

1. I once called him to let him know I could potentially be 15 minutes late to my appointment the next day and I'm happy to take a later appointment time if me potentially being 15 minutes late might not work for him. He was very rude on the phone and said that I should have thought through my appointment time before I booked it (I booked it 3 weeks in advance). He told me he cannot move me and he has potentially lost a client because of me. I assured him I won't be late and I made it on time. I shouldn't have bothered because I sat there for 20 minutes waiting for him to finish with the previous appointment.

I still don't understand how he could possibly lose a client if I was late by 15 minutes or if he moved my appointment to the end of the day. Especially given that I'd always waited at least half an hour before my appointment (before he could attend to me), even though I was always on time, because he prioritised walk-ins (seemed to be his friends) over me. I don't understand how his time is precious and mine isn't. I'd always been very understanding of his urgent walk-ins. I don't know why he was so rude to me when I told him I could potentially be 15 minutes late, knowing very well that he has always made me wait.

2. Kevin never listens to instructions. I specifically told him not to thin my hair when I got him to trim my hair before his wife chemically straightened it and he started thinning it. When I stopped him, he apologised and said he forgot. And then did it again. Another time I asked for a long side fringe, and he did something (no idea how to explain it) that did not suit me at all.

3. He takes only cash, which is fine with me, but he won't give you even an approximate price even if you send him photos of your hair and length and explain that I'm not asking for exact figure, I just want an approximate to know how much cash I need to bring with me. It's a pain to have to drive all the way, get a quote and if what you are carrying is not enough, have to go get more money from an ATM. And he is SO RUDE about it and doesn't want to listen to your explanation.

I've always given him the benefit of the doubt because I always thought that though he has some anger management issues, he is nice sometimes. But that's it, I'm done letting him treat me like that. Never going back.

I came in for a trim with my brother and sister and was left waiting for 2 hours before being served because Kevin had prioritised his friends over our appointment time. When I had booked my haircut over the phone, he said he would be able to see me straight away.

Two hours later, when it was my turn for my haircut, Kevin did not cut my hair, his wife had. I had no problem with this, as long as she could do what I ask of her because it seemed like a simple request at the time and perhaps she would have enough experience if she were to pick up scissors and tell me she would be cutting my hair for me.

I asked for her to trim 2cm off my length, with no style, just straight across. Before she cut my hair, I asked her again how much she was planning to cut off since I was not convinced she fully understood. As we held our fingers in comparison side by side, she would always hold hers to about 8cm instead. I would ask her in both english and vietnamese to make sure to cut 2cm off my length straight across before cutting.

She did not listen to what I asked and she cut my hair into a V style tail. I did not ask her to do this but she did it anyway even though I repeated what I wanted in 2 languages. To this day, I'm not sure what happened in her mind when straight across meant a V style cut. I will never recommend Kevin to anyone. He will not cut your hair for you, and even then, I have seen how they turn out and have heard how he won't listen to what you ask of him either.

I am still trying to grow out the damage she had done. As we were paying, Kevin did not offer an apology or a discount for making us wait for so long and for giving us all haircuts we did not ask for.

I truely want to give this salon a 5 star rating, however, my previous (and most recent) experience had been terrible. I want to say that the reason why this is not a 1 star rating is because the haircut is amazing, like, seriously beautiful in technique and style. However, this became a 2 star because of what happened with my recent visit.

To be straight forward with you, I came in wanting an ombre look, half of my hair bleached. Because I had virgin hair, this should have been relatively easy. However, it came out to be a mess; one side of my hair is damaged and was literally falling out as soon as I left the salon. After closer inspection, the bleaching was literally a straight line (no blending, whatsoever) and was extremely uneven. Safe to say, my hair was literally ruined. I only left the house wearing a bun to hide the state of my hair was in.

To this day, my hair is still uneven. I have considered coming back here for a haircut, but having to go through months of regrowth, praying that my hair will heal with products that costs more than the bleaching itself and unfruitful attempts at fixing my hair, Its probably best you went to some other salon if you want to dye your hair.

I have been to him multiple times both the last two times he has cut my hair awfully. The first time i said i wanted short layered hair yet he didnt listen to me and cut 2 long layers and i left dishearted. He also trimmed off 2 inches off my hair. Second time i asked for layered again but he cut it unevenly there was too much on the top layer making it look like a bob with a thin long layer of hair under which looked horrible. I tried to call back to get the cut fixed and the lady said that he was away and would call back in a few minutes. I call back after 2 hours and find that i cannot connect through to them. It was a home phone number so i assume they unplugged it.

Anyway I don't reccommend kevin because he doesn't listen and thinks he knows what's best , any other hairdresser would have no qualms about fixing my hair after the customer is unsatisfied but he does not value his customers after they've paid him.
