Great spot for breakfast or brunch. Spoiled for choices at their wide selection of pastries, cakes. We went on a Sunday morning and it was brimming with people. The smoked salmon house bagel and ham and pesto danish were both delicious. Service was excellent as well.

Lovely cosy little bakery serving up some of the best rustic pastries going around. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by warm friendly staff and their table service was prompt and helpful.
Although the fixed menu is basic (a variety of toast & croissants with an array of condiments - targeting those who need to grab something on the run to work), they boast an extensive blackboard crammed with sumptuous specials, which can take a while to decide on. I tried the Rabbit, ham hock & mushroom pie, which was a savoury delight, served with their homemade tomato sauce / relish, coupled with a token Greek salad (which I asked for and they made it happen), to round out the perfect brunch for me. The coffee was solid, and no complaints there either.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, a low hum of casual conversations surrounded me in the main room which has a lovely aspect of Hampden Rd, and there was a quiet little back room packed with fancies and couples aswell. If you are staying in Battery Point, and somehow haven’t heard about this great little spot, do yourself a favour and carve out an hr or so of your day to enjoy this locals cafe retreat.

Loved this bakery & Cafe. The staff were very friendly, service was good & the food was great. After our breakfast, We got some treats to eat later in the day from the bakery section. Thanks to the driver on the double decker bus for the suggestion.

Bought curried scallop pie, carrot cake, and sticky date slice for takeaway.
Sticky date was very fudgy, I liked it.
Carrot cake was also good. Scallop pie was very bit and tasty.

This was recommended by a local and didn’t disappoint. Our breakfasts were delicious and boy did I want their pastries. All the bread looked amazing and if I was here longer I’d go back for sure.

We ordered a lamb pie, some scallop pies, and a sourdough roll for our table.

The pies were quite flaky, although not entirely so. The lamb pie was nice. The lamb inside is the sort you’d expect from any other beef/lamb pie - gravy-based?.

The scallop pies, which are unique, were OK. The filling was, unfortunately, overpowered by the chutney/curry taste which was mixed into the filling. I would’ve preferred to be able to appreciate the taste of the scallop more.

Sourdough roll was disappointing for a place that prides itself as “bakers of fine breads, cakes, and pastries.” Not enough crust on the outside, and not enough alveoli on the inside.

In the charming streets of Hobart, where the past lingers in every stone and beam, you’ll find Jackman & McRoss—a true local favorite. Housed in a beautiful century-old building, this bakery offers a wide array of pastries, pies, and sweets that cater to all tastes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, a perfect spot to escape the hustle of the city and enjoy a moment of comfort.

On the wall, the blackboard menu features daily specials that are packed with flavor. These dishes are thoughtfully prepared, with each bite offering a burst of taste that leaves you wanting more. The attention to detail in every recipe shows the care and passion behind the kitchen.

The service is excellent, whether you’re ordering at the counter or being served at one of the many tables. The friendly staff ensures you’re well taken care of. With over twenty tables, it’s a lively place, but even at its busiest, it maintains a cozy, welcoming vibe that makes every visit a pleasure.
