To anyone considering attending this event in the future - don't. Save your hard earned dollars. The festival has progressively gotten worse, this year the entire carnival side was a complete disaster, astronomical prices and pretty pathetic rides, the worst of all was the sideshow games, plus most of the workers looked like they hated their jobs or were being forced to work. Kaydee Entertainment or something they were called, and the fact that the event organisers trusted this company with an important event like this, is disappointing. Entertainment, meh. Food, meh, at best. Stallholders, the only reason I'm giving the festival any stars at all.

But the Jacarandas themselves were beautiful 🤩

For a short time in early summer Grafton’s streets and parks are bathed in a magical purple glow when the city’s hundreds of Jacaranda trees burst into flower.

In tribute to this spectacle Grafton has set up the week-long Jacaranda Festival, from the last weekend of October to the first weekend of November.

There will be something going on all over town throughout the festival, from fun runs to open gardens, afternoon teas and the crowning of a Queen, Princess and Drag Queen.

It all peaks on Jacaranda Thursday, when the CBD is completely taken over by roving performers and market stalls for delicious food and arts and crafts.

The second Saturday brings a float procession followed by a sunset concert, and on the Sunday there’s a 10k river run.

I am absolutely horrified at the cost of everything, honestly the entry fee alone is a pensioners weekly shop. $29 per adult, that is disgusting considering there are so many families on welfare who could enjoy this event but cannot even afford to get themselves in the gate. Kids may be free but they still need supervision. It wasn't very busy there and it's understandable, everything was extremely overpriced. Definitely not even worth the entry fee and there is nothing actually valid there about the jacarandas, just a few stalls n cruddy rides.

The festival was meant to close at 4:30pm. We arrived at 2pm. There was a sign saying rides closing at 2:45pm and the man at the entrance also told us that. So we ran on over to the rides and they where all ready closing. Everything was getting packed up early. We paid alot of money just to leave again. Disappointed.

The Jacaranda trees in full lilac bloom are t he star attraction. Lined up and leaving a carpet trail of purple they are magnificent. Lots of pageantry & liveliness in the festival. Grafton also has lots of really good parks to visit & the clarence river.
