For the price, you really can’t complain about this resort. The rooms are dated but clean. The beds are very firm, if you like that. I have some trouble sleeping when we stay here because I like a softer bed and pillows but my husband has no problem and waking up to the view of the water makes out worth it. Downsides are you have to tidy up really well before leaving or risk a cleaning charge and you can’t park next to your villa so we can’t leave our esky or anything else in the back of the Ute for extra storage like we usually would. If you book through Airbnb they’ll treat you completely diff than when you book through the resort. The real reason we stay here is the value for money, a 2 bed villa with an awesome pool within steps of the beach. A/C in every room. A pullout couch for our 3rd child. There’s a coin laundry on site that cleans and dries our family’s weeks worth of clothing in 45 min and that is a bonus! There’s never been a lot of people around when stay so it’s nice not to have a crowded pool or lots of noise. At the end of the day it’s fairly tidy and does the job, you wouldn’t find better value in Mackay if you have a bigger family and are on a budget. We love staying here!

My wife & I had 2 nights accommodation in a perfectly located beach front villa (number 16). |Two bedrooms, well appointed amenities including both fans & a/c as well as a fully equipped kitchen.|The well maintained grounds, tropical surrounds & spectacular views of the Pacific ocean, made this a very memorable visit.|Friendly staff & a special thank you to the resort manager who looked after our needs.|We highly recommend Illawong Beach Resort to couples & families & look forward to our next visit.|

I’m not sure why is called a resort. It’s just a selection of 2 or 4 bed cabins with a swimming pool and reception. Looks like maybe there used to be more but a long time ago. There definitely not ‘villas’ as they describe them. I believe we had number 30. Check in was fine and the lady we met pleasant. Honestly wanted to leave as soon as we saw it. I think they are all independently owned so owners use the excuse in multiple reviews that they can’t make the owners refurbish them. No excuse for the cleanliness though. The Kitchen was completely unusable- filthy! Couldn’t use plates/cups or cutlery- see photos. Fridge was dirty. Obviously the entire unit hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly for a long time. There was a hole in the bathroom door and wall. Air con unit full of dust. Clientele was not touristy or family friendly. Lots of workers and contractors obviously stay here and look like more longer term residents. I didn’t feel comfortable overall and I wouldn’t recommend. Needs a massive refurbishment and rebranding. It’s such a shame as the spot is beautiful and pool is nice it could be so lovely with a bit of work.

Booked a 2 bedroomed villa. We stayed in No 19. Stepped out of the bedroom and/or living room and the Pacific Ocean was in front of us! Helpful friendly staff at Reception and around the grounds of the property. Everything was pristine. The swimming pool was divine, clean and clear, sparkled. The hot tub/jacuzzi was just the ticket after our flight. Our rooms were both doubles, spacious with fan and aircon. A big fridge/freezer in the kitchen. A comfortable sofa and chairs in the living area. Outside furniture for breakfast. I wandered on the beach at dawn to watch the sunrise, it was magic. Super photo opportunities. A laundry room with washers and dryers. Continual maintenance of the grounds kept everywhere spic and span. Loved everything. Just sorry that there is no shop or restaurant on site. If you have no transport be aware of this and shop before you come. Taxis are available to get you in to town or to the airport at reasonable cost. Cooking utensils are adequate but basic. Everyone very friendly. Can Highly recommend. Thanks to Willie & Belinda.

This is a great place to stay if you don't want to hear road traffic - but it is at the end of the Airport runway and planes fly over regularly. The units are equipped with a full kitchen, 2 double rooms and a great bathroom with plenty of water in a good shower. There are air-cos and a fan, tables and chairs outside the door too. There is a pool and BBQ area. We enjoyed our stay, but were pleased to have our own car as it is a long walk to the nearest shopping mall.

Great location, right on the beach. The bungalows are nice and cozy but need some fresh paint and curtains. Looking a little run down but otherwise a nice place. ||Word of advice though, if there is a wedding booked, do not stay there. We were advised the wedding would wind down by 9pm........ Music was still pumping really loud at 12:30am!!! Then had people getting down and dirty outside my bedroom window. ||Recommend this beach resort for a relaxing tropical weekend away.

Stayed at this resort when it was relatively new and this was my first opportunity to return since then. I could only stay 2 nights but was not disappointed. The Villas come well equipped with full kitchen and 3 air conditioners. Sleeps 4 easily in 2 bedrooms. The wifi was excellent. No laundry in the Villas but a guest laundry is available onsite. Shopping is located nearby but is not walkable. I plan to spend a week here on my next visit.
