I have stayed at Ibis mackay airport twice now. the first time it was a good experience but the second time i stayed at room 406. The walls of the room are dirty, the aircon did not work well. I arrived in my room at 09:30 pm and got to bed an hour later. The air con took atleast 2 hours to cool the room up and i did not want to call reception as i had an early start in the morning. the buffet breakfast is average and the coffee is just terrible. I am vegetrian and ended up eating only yoghurt with museli and a muffin. I admire the face that there is a gym but the overall exeperience leaves a lot to be desired. With a little bit of thought it can be improved. Focus on improving the breakfast. Provide some essentials in the bathroom such as toothbrush, moisturiser and lift up the room environment.

The hotel was clean, and the room was spacious. We booked an accessible room. However, the bathroom had a strong sewage smell coming from the drains.
Room service kept going offline, and when we asked why, they said they were short-staffed. When this occurred, there was no accessible way of ordering food via telephone. This is not great when you have mobility issues, hence the accessible room. The food was great when we managed to order it.
Overall, I would only stay here again due to the location and proximity to the airport.
I would eat at the restaurant again without hesitation.

Check in was easy, room was clean and had everything I needed. No problems there. Dinner at the restaurant was fine - salmon was cooked nicely, the meals just took a while.

We spent a few hours working in the beer garden so purchased multiple drinks, snacks and dinner. Staff member working behind the bar was atrocious. He barely spoke or made eye contact. His whole body language was of someone who didn't want to be there. He was outright rude to people.

Breakfast was interesting. Ordered the acai bowl and paid extra for the granola and berry compote. They didn't have the fruit listed and had none of the berry compote which I paid extra for. I get that fruit is seasonal, so just put seasonal fruit on the menu rather than listing specific fruits.

Why dont staff have uniforms and name badges? Some staff look completely inappropriate for customer facing positions and lack the skills to greet and converse simply with guests. The staff appear to lack training and support or maybe they are simply the wrong people to work in hospitality .Processes are painfully long for every simple request, check in is irritating and repetitive, for example if you have ALL of our details and they have been confirmed by using the online check in app as accor members for over 20 years WHY does everything need to be examined in minute details EVERY single time We have been emailed OTHER guests check out folios and private details more than once in the last year, this is unacceptable that the hotel breaches its own accor privacy policy and when I have attempted to contact the hotel and the general manager 4 times, there was NO reply at all, no care factor as to why my email address was connected to a stranger? Staff seem to be unaware of the accor rewards and levels system. |As for the rooms AGAIN, the rooms are NOT being vacuumed between guests, we know this because when we remove our shoes we can feel dirt/stones etc on the carpet from work boots. This is unacceptable as is the fact that every time we stay at this ibis we bring along glen 20 disinfectant wipes to wipe down every surface and tv remote and light switches BECAUSE the staff DO NOT clean these areas, WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS . This is UNACCEPTABLE . House keeping is a hard job , but the staff are changing sheets and towels and not cleaning the rooms to any acceptable level. Does any manager EVER check the rooms AGAIN the rooms need a refurb its time well and truly , the airport authority and its owners need to get to this asap. If it was not for mining and resources contracts this hotel would be a lot quieter and all guests deserve a quality experience.|Breakfast : staff lethargic, really uninterested in anything really, could not be bothered with anything other than standing at the bar, NOT OK wrong people for this job. Cleanliness not good not acceptable in this restaurant, glasses still dirty with orange juice from previous use, cutlery take your chances as you wish, cheese and salami left on open plates in the heat , uncovered , not cooled as per food safety standards, yuk , do not eat, then the butter/margarine / jams should be cooled under ice in individual sachets as per food standards not open to everyone dipping in a knife - gross , unacceptable as per QLD HEALTH FOOD SAFETY REGULATIONS . The read table salt and pepper shakers are disgusting why have these not been replaced so worn and dirty. Supermarket bread and pastries not appealing . lactose free milk for the few clients that this applies to. The yoghurts and the buffet display is unappealing you need to sort this out. Please note that the coffee machine only disperses lukewarm water fortea and coffee and is UNACCEPTABLE , however please note that the STAFF USE THE BAR EXPRESSO MACHINE for their own coffees in front of guests -nice one ibis. |OK for the one positive- the new restaurant dinner menu was great , a hit for sure, congratulations to Terence and BJ . the meals were fantastic quality and serving- sofitel standard. The scallops were beautiful, the lamb shanks delicious, and the morroccan lamb shoulder excellent- thankyou , we look forward to trying some of the other dishes next visit.

Very clean room. Office chair is not very soft. If you’re very tall it might be hard to fit your legs under the desk. However they have an office workstation in reception. It was a pretty comfy bed the pillows were a bit more firm than I liked but that’s okay. The aircon was good not really noisy. The bar fridge gave off a small noise but nothing that kept me awake. The bathroom is small but modern. The shower is not very big but tidy. It was a shame there wasn’t a water jug in the fridge after having a long road trip. Reliable wifi. Not a bad view from level 5. The room was pretty sound proof also and I couldn’t hear any of the other guests. Don’t be confused by the block out blinds there are 2 blinds not one so I learnt this morning. Free parking in secure parking.

Recently stayed there for 5 nights. Overall, the service not good but their cheap price is kinda offsetting this drawbacks.
Below are few things that happen during my visit:
-Christmas dinner time they put 5-9pm, went there at 7.35pm and the waiter said he was about to close & not taking more order as they run out of staff & complaining that he has to clean all by himself and been overworked for the past 3 nights. I spoke with receptionist and he couldn't do anything about it. In the end, because of few people already lining up, the waiter has to take the orders reluctantly but apologising.
-Asked to get the room cleaned but they didn't fill in the body wash, so had to ask from the counter.
-Waiting too long for receptionist to come back to his desk. They put a sign on the door "Will be back in 5 minutes" but definitely me n the other customer waited more than that.
-No re-heating facility so definitely this hotel should still be 3 stars.

I don't usually write a review, but unfortunately I have experienced too many of these series of unpleasant services during my short visit.

Ordered a steak, gotta catch a flight 30 minutes later approach the counter and the kitchen staff who are totally clueless and the bar staff never put my order in with the kitchen so my steak never got cooked. Absolutely unbelievable how hard could it be to put a docket at the kitchen to cook a steak? Thanks richelle I’ll just go hungry after 12.5hr shift.
