As soon as we walked into our room it smelt horrific. Absolutely disgusting. Some of the drinks and food in our room were also expired for over several months. We encountered several cockroaches roaming around our room and several other bugs. Unfortunately we were unable to take photos of the roaches but one we put outside the other however is still in the room. There is also loads or nould around this place. It is so not taken care of properly. The service was lovely and reception guy so sweet and easy to get along with

Ok - let’s start with the positives.
Great location, especially when travelling with animals. The rooms are basic but do the job. The building does have issues with mould though. That’s obvious, it’s a very damp building. And there’s damp rid in all the rooms.
And well, that’s about it for positives.

Negatives -
First up, A beyond archaic payment system.
You give your credit card and it’s “encrypted into their system”
Honestly, if you didn’t bring a physical cc with you, not sure how you would check in or pay.
In 2024, not sure why this place doesn’t have a terminal to pay via Apple/Google pay for the security of credit card information. No ones card details should be “stored” anywhere. If big companies like Medibank Private can get hacked, I’m pretty sure this place could by a teenager.
Not safe and frankly, strange in this day and age.

Upon checkin, apparently, you are given a code to access the gate after hours. Now when I say you are given it, it isn’t texted, emailed or anything else remotely helpful, it is given to you ON A PIECE OF PAPER.
Honestly, what century is this place in?

In amongst the information of check in, you are handed some pathetic piece of paper to hold onto in case you need access after hours. Apparently, I was given this but have not been able to locate it anywhere.

Upon returning at midnight I see the locked gate and think, what code?
Of course, there’s an after hours number… great! I’ll ring them.
17 phone calls, numerous texts and nothing. No response. What on earth is the point of having this if no one answers? Totally unprofessional and frankly, mystifying.
Meanwhile, my life saving medication is inside and I can’t access it.
Thanks to Paddington Police for answering my call and jumping the fence. NSW police get 5 stars.

NSW Police were however concerned how people would evacuate in the case of fire and concerned that an ambulance wouldn’t be able to gain access after hours in the event of an emergency.

Raised this with management and Gary (Manager) could not care less. Never have I come across anyone so hostile, un compassionate and frankly useless at their job.
It was so strange that someone working in customer service could be, well, so not customer experience focused.

Do yourself a favour, don’t bother staying here.

We were so glad to discover The Hughenden! The friendly service, the breakfast, (including great coffee), the sunny deck, the charm of a more graceful and less invasive era. The rooms had everything required, including a very comfortable bed and a great shower. It would be a tragedy if the owner thought it was a good idea to pull it down! It offers a wonderfully affordable and welcoming alternative in a world of the opposite. Thank you Gary and Arlene for looking after us so well! Returning customers.

Staff were very rude. Asked for two bed was given one and told off when asked for separate beds. Hung up on twice when calling and was had them swear slurs at me and telling me I was wrong.

This was a great place to stay. I read some bad reviews on here, so was a little hesitant and needed to revisit my tripadvisor account now to offer my positive thoughts to the mix. It was a 10 minute walk to Allianz Stadium. Being able to leave the concert and walk to bed was amazing. The neighbourhood was beautiful. It was like staying in some rich old relative's home. The room was exactly as advertised and totally clean. Bed very comfortable. The carpark was small but exactly as advertised. They contacted me twice beforehand to make sure I could check in before the desk closed or make alternative arrangements. Staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was included and they were playing Robbie Williams tunes in the morning after the concert, a nice touch. Very happy with our stay thank you.

Not worth the price.
This place is not kept clean and seems to rely heavily on being 'boutique' to get away with it.
Carpet and couches seem like they haven't been cleaned in years.
Black and pink mould everywhere in the bathroom.
The fan in the bathroom is covered in dust and barely works meaning the room quickly becomes outrageously steamy. You are not allowed to open the bathroom door while showering either or you may incurr a fine from the fire department if the smoke alarms are set off - hotel policy. Maybe install proper working fans in the bathrooms?
The breakfast / food options are stale and disgusting.
Coffee isn't too bad.
Staff are polite enough but unfortunately if you need something there's no one working past 2pm or 3pm until the next day.
You have to pay extra for parking , $33 per day! Which is insane considering the price you're already paying for a room.
Location is good but not good enough to get away with all the faults this hotel have.

We sought a refund and the manager is very stubborn and argumentative.

Would never stay here again.
