The views are why I booked. But the windows were so dirty and no furniture on patios. 😪
The carpet is also super old in the rooms and feels and smells dirty.
Upgraded bathrooms and full size products are nice but don't expect any upgrades in the coffee area. Very basic.
My 1 year old stayed with us this time and busted her toe on the lip of the tile from bedroom into bathroom. Why can't this be flush? It's not easily visible at all. If it wasn't her, it would have been me.
Also I have a disability and walking is difficult but parking is around the back and next door and $15 per night. No valet. No on site parking.
You'd figure for nearly 250 per night, better amenities.
Unfortunately we won't stay here again because of the cons listed.

Neat, clean, larger rooms. Great views (I was on level 10 overlooking river). Staff are friendly and reception is 24hrs. Room service and on-site restaurant available. Large bed, great shower, would recommend it.

Quite expensive to stay.
NO microwave or cutlery so you have to eat out or at their restaurant/room service.
Pool was out of service and was never refunded any money back for not been able to use the facility.
Aircon wasn't working properly and we were there in the middle of summer.
Bed was comfortable but that was about the only positive about the hotel.

Overall not impressed with the stay.

Old place, high price, not swimming pool as in the pictures, the lift doesn’t work properly, the bathroom fan makes noise all the time. Plus, I found a cockroach in the bed. Good receptionist. I would recommend to book next door which is half price and same facilities or somewhere in the Strand as this location is completely dead.

This was my last minute booking without checking the reviews. Th reception staff was great and helpful. But the rooms were stinging, not cleaned properly. Previous guests used water bottles and other waste materials were there in the room. The shape of the building is weird, can make you claustrophobic

No parking nor pool access available on my 2 day stay. Continuous running water in the toilet- reported but not addressed. Sounded like my own personal water feature within the room. Appeared to be invisible on check in as unacknowledged for a period of time whilst idle chit chat occurred. Location was great but not befitting my circumstances for work related stay. My employer booked this, I would not choose to stay here

Checked in last minute on Saturday 12/10 late afternoon, after arriving in Townsville to find the booking I had made at another hotel was actually for 2 weeks time and they were full already for 12/10.
After searching online for accommodation, I called Hotel Grand Chancellor, spoke to Sophy and she was really friendly and super helpful. I then arrived at the hotel a little that afternoon to be greeted by Sophy who remembered our conversation and sorted my check in.
Her colleague on the desk, Gracia was also very friendly and very professional.
So great to come across this high level of customer service and professionalism. Both are a credit to the property and the tourism industry.

Had a 2 days stay, was not notified at time of booking that the pool would be out of order. One of the main reasons I booked was because of the pool.
I also left the door hanger request to ‘make up my room’ while we were out, this was not done.
I wrote to the hotel to express my disappointment, the email was not address. So left feedback through the email request post check out. Got a very generic (copy/paste) response back. If you want to pay full price for a hotel not to offer facilities advertised then this is the place for you.
My husband and I travel to Townsville regularly, we will not be staying again. The Oaks a few doors down is a good alternative.
