Won’t go there again. Told we could sit anywhere so we sat at the windows looking out but was then asked to move because that’s where they serve the street customers (it was bucketing rain and had zero street customers). We moved to a different spot and then had zero service. Ended up ordering via the QR code but items all came out randomly (not together). Tried the ‘cronuts’ which were nice but the coffee was poorly. At the end of the day, the welcome was poor and the lack of service made me write this review.

We had an early morning breakfast. The brekky wrap was beautiful as was the huge bacon and eggs with sides. Staff were so beautiful.

This is an excellent place if you are looking for a wonderful breakfast or lunch. The service was wonderful and super efficient. The food was delicious and cooked with care, would definitely recommend.

We were pretty excited for this place since it had good reviews. It wasn't an overly packed day (Tuesday morning) so we did the usual, seated ourselves, and placed order through our phones using QR codes. The wait was well over 20-25mins for a banana bread and quick wrap order and coffee. Food tasted decent but one expects more efficiency, etc when you enter a famous establishment.
The cafe still has good reviews so we hope to come back some time but it was quite a disappointment for now.

Just a PSA to the hippo kitchen staff if you put poached eggs that haven’t been drained properly on toast it will most likely absorb all of that water and then become inedible, close to any other item on plate should avoid this issue or drain the eggs after poaching xoxo

As we walked our way across the street looking for a place to have lunch, we stumbled upon the Hippo Espresso. An establishment tucked away in the street, with great outdoor seating and high quality service.

We ordered a works burger, bowl of chips, a chocolate cheese cake and a chicken, avo and cheese toasty. As well as a range of drinks including a coffee, milkshake and a thick shake. The food is amazing, with fresh ingredients, and quick service that made the experience that much more enjoyable.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, especially since we were new to the establishment and weren’t aware of the order process. Overall, the establishment accommodated for customer needs, with quick service followed by quality cuisine. I would recommend this place for anyone in the local area or travelling!
