Peace, beauty, privacy and nature. Wendy has a range of simple yet comfortable accommodation for different needs, all wrapped in a view of forested bluffs and the wide open plain between them. I prefer the self-contained cabin with its indoor/outdoor kitchen and outdoor fire. I had a lovely stay - my third. Now Hilltop Farm is a periodic getaway from the stressy South, where I can eat fresh produce from her garden, swim in the dam, sit by the fire under the stars, go for long undisturbed walks or just sit on the verandah and read a good book. Wendy knew many interesting places to explore nearby and I was able to purchase yummy fruit and veges fresh-picked from the garden. I recommend Hilltop Farm for anyone who wants to get away from the busy-ness of the world. Wendy's farm tours are great too, for an in-depth explanation of how her farm produces nearly all her food, with increasingly less effort - inspiring and educational.

I cannot write highly enough of Wendy and her kindness, staying at Hill Top Farm is like staying with a dear friend. The farm is surrounded by distant low mountains and is about 20 minutes from the interesting town of Cooktownl ||To the practicalites. We stayed in the cabin and the tent in July, both were comfortable, warm and quiet. The outdoor kitchen/ living area was well equipped and sheltered from the elements. We bought Wendy's breakfast packs, which included her home made bread, and fruit and vegetables from her garden. In the early evening we lit a fire in the outdoor fireplace with wood provided by Wendy and sat enjoying Pepper's (the puppy's) endearing antics.and watching the last of the sunset. We were able to wander around the farm freely as were the ducks and, at times, the geese.||Hill Top Farm stay will suit people who want "to tread lightly on the land", everything felt right.

As a southerner, Hill Top Farm was a unique experience. Together with permaculture farm host Wendy, the rural lifestyle offers guests the opportunity to experience a real down-to-earth lifestyle, with all that one requires. The comfortable indoor/outdoor accommodation, open-space and freedom offers guests the opportunity to observe farm animals and wildlife close-up. Where-else can you shower with beautiful green tree frogs? When taking the short drive to Cooktown to gather supermarket supplies, I recommend visiting the botanical gardens, gallery, museum, lookout and river front. Perfect spot for getting away from it all. Wendy provides comfortable rooms all in a relaxed, pleasant environment. The outdoor kitchen has everything you need to self cater. Wendy was most accommodating for our whole family (2 adults and two teenagers) including the dogs! The fresh fruit was replaced regularly and Wendy event gave us one of her first Mangoes! Wendy is very knowledgeable and everyone could learn something from her. Call this Hill Top farm what you will, farm-stay, nature retreat, eco lodge, outback experience or similar, I just call it the place we've been looking for! We'll be coming back here again, and again.

We just had another fabulous week at Hilltop. A stay at Wendy's is now a 'must' any time we go to Cooktown or up the Cape. Its sooo laid back and relaxing and the way Wendy has incorporated farm stay into her amazing permaculture garden is fascinating. We learn so much every day! ||||We opted to be fed this time, and were impressed with delicious and nutritious meals she and Tim, one of her regular WWOOFers, made us. Most of the ingredients were home grown at Hilltop and the smoothies and icecream is to die for!||||....and to cool off with an afternoon dip in that ginormous dam and then sit round the campfire sipping banana wine as the full moon rose!....yep Hilltop is right up there on our must re-visit list.

Hilltop Farm is a wonderfully rustic and comfortable place to stay. The surrounding landscape is stunning and living outside in the kitchen/dining/lounge in rain (sheltered) or shine was bliss. We stayed with our two teenage boys, who fell in love with Pepper the puppy. It is a totally relaxing environment with a lot more charm to it than a motel in town. And even though I am not a fan of outside ablutions, I found this very easy to cope with and worth the compromise! Wendy is a lovely host - nothing is too much trouble. A very memorable experience for all of us!

Very comfortable place to watch the solar eclipse of May 2013 - or do other things in Cooktown only 5 kilometres away. Wendy is a very nice person, giving us every day fresh fruits from her organic garden. This place is definitely recommended for anyone looking for a relaxed place in the countryside.

Great hidden gem close to Cooktown. We did a day trip to attractions such as Elim Beach, Isabella Falls and Lakefield NP. Powered site, water, showers, compost toilet, washing machine and plenty of privacy. Only one camping site but could easily fit 2-3 other families. Wendy was fantastic and is very informed/passionate about her eco farming. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
