The staff are wonderful, hard-working, and caring, but there just aren't enough of them to adequately (in my opinion) look after the population of Hervey Bay.
It's crisis after crisis after crisis seemingly occurring on a daily basis.
My husband was on hospital standby at home for an immediate hip replacement for over 12 months before receiving the surgery he so desperately needed 3 days ago.
After waiting 5 hours for the surgical team to clear the patients from emergency, they were finally able to squeeze him in.
And being there daily since he was admitted, I have seen nothing but crisis management every time I am in there.
My admiration of everyone working there is super high because of the high stress they have to deal with every day. You do a GREAT job, everyone!!!

Despite the inevitable long wait times and less-than-stellar hospital food, the staff at Hervey Bay Hospital have been truly exceptional. Their care, compassion, and dedication have exceeded my expectations.

From the moment I arrived in the Emergency Department to my discharge, I was treated with kindness and respect. I want to highlight that the nurses and support staff especially went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and well-being, and provided emotional support during challenging times. The doctors too, patiently answered my many and somewhat ridiculous questions and explained procedures clearly.

I want to extend a special thanks some certain staff that I cannot remember all the names because of the medication, but to the staff specifically in the maternity ward on 20 & 21/10, other nurses there on 7 & 8/11, Ally, Brooke, Therese, the nurse with long curly hair who hugged me when I cried, the nurses and doctors at xray and CT on 15/11, the wardsman in maternity, Rob, and the cleaning lady (mid-late 40s with the dark hair) for their outstanding care. Their empathy and professionalism made a significant difference in my hospital stay.

I am truly grateful for the exceptional service I received. It is a testament to the high quality of care provided at Hervey Bay Hospital.

Had a phone appointment with a doctor, within a two hour window. Message on my phone stated the appointment would be at 9.45am. Went into the hospital to confirm appointment, woman on desk in Outpatients said that there is a two hour window in which they call me. Waited more than two hours. Contacted hospital. Had to call Outpatients repeatedly until someone answered the phone. Was told that doctors do face-to-face appointments in the morning and phone appointments in the afternoon. Was not told this information when I confirmed the appointment at the desk, nor via my phone message. Took a day off work to wait for this phone appointment, could have still gone to work!
Parking is ridiculous, people having to park several streets away to be able to access clinics.

About a month ago I was triaged after Putin a digging fork through my foot. After waiting 3 hours, a nurse came to take my blood pressure. She saw I was bleeding into the floor and immediately whisked me into a bed so I could have an xray. Thank you so much to the nurse who cared.

Excellent work by nurses and doctors .. with what they have to work with, they do a great job, this job could be much easier if 50% of the people didn't turn up - i got a runny nose , I have constipation , I kicked my little toe and the nail is black , I was moving stuff and have a sore back- all things you see you general Doctor for..
When I went to ER , 5 people plus me ( i had a spike go intomy heel 5cm ) , one guy had a gash to his head ( he should be there), the rest could have stayed home and self medicated. Then when they got into a bed they did nothing but complain...
Nurses and doctors I really feel for you.. fantastic job.

My sister was showing signs of lethargy, pain and confusion and just generally not well. Her ex-husband was about to take her for her scheduled doctor's appointment, however, called an ambulance instead.
I don't know if she was assessed by a doctor when taken in. Two hours later she was given Endone (oxycodone) and discharged.
When friends called in to see her at home the next day, she was showing signs of delirium and lethargy once again, only more pronounced. An ambulance was called and she was back at Hervey Bay hospital.
This time it was discovered that she was dehydrated and that her kidneys were shutting down and she may need dialysis. Given IV fluids and antibiotics. Kidneys stabilized. I was then told that she had a urinary tract infection. Then I was told that she required a blood transfusion.
When I asked where the bleed was coming from, no one could tell me. She is anemic was the response. Why?
The latest is that she has hypoxia. Does anyone in this hospital have a clue what the underlying issue is

Last year this same sister was admitted to this hospital, sent home and a day later admitted again and, yes, you guessed it sent home.
Two days later she collapsed in her local shopping centre and was once again taken by ambulance to Hervey Bay Hospital. They still had no idea what was wrong and so she was then airlifted to RBH in Brisbane. She had a blocked artery to her bowel, almost died, and consequently now has to live with a Stoma bag.

This time around I, as her next of kin contact, have spoken to 5 different doctors, 3 in the ICU and 2 in the ward. They are now talking about sending her home again. Still no definitive diagnosis of what the underlying issue is.

I live in Brisbane and just spent 3 days in Hervey Bay at my sister's apartment cleaning faecis of surfaces and bathroom and throwing away bedding. She is not taking care of herself. They say they did a CT scan to check for blocked arteries, but although there is some blockage medical staff don't see it as a problem. Do a damn MRI and get to the root of the problem. My worry is that she has a blockage to her brain, as she is so not herself in any way. I am worried that they will do a bandaid job, send her home and she may die.

I have told the doctor at the hospital that if she is discharged and ends up back at, that so-called, hospital that I want her transported to Brisbane RBH immediately. No one at this hospital communicates. Too many Indians and not enough chiefs.

Don't get me started on the parking fiasco. There is none during the week. This hospital should be shut down for many reasons or else given an influx of funds to bring it out of its third-world status.
