Arrived to a lovely warm cabin as the owner had lit the wood fire for us. There was also an oil heater in the living area and an electric heater in the bathroom. Sitting in the hills of rural Sheffield, it was quiet, picturesque and relaxing. Cabin has all kitchen facilities with microwave, oven, fridge, as well as TV, lounge and comfortable beds. The owners, Rose-Marie and Frank are very friendly and welcoming. Lovely place to stay if you want to explore Sheffield, Cradle Mountain and surrounds.

What a great little drive down to the cottages! So quiet and picturesque.||||I had a good little giggle when we arrived and Rose-Marie greeted us... my daughter ran to her with arms open and they both enjoyed a big hug!||||Our wood stove was lit each afternoon so that when my daughter and I arrived home after a days adventure, we were greeted with a super cosy room.||||The cottages are simple, but the most awesome value for money. So comfortable. You'll most definitely enjoy a great nights sleep.||||All the necessary things you need are stocked in the cottage and if you need anything else, just let Rose-Marie know and I'm sure she will accommodate if possible.||||Sheffield is a lovely town and the surrounding areas are all within an easy drive to get your 'Tassie Adventure' on!||||If I'm ever in the region again, I would most definitely stay at Helvetia!

What a pleasant surprise to arrive at Helvetia on a very very cold and rainy night to discover the fire ablaze and the unit toasty and warm. Rose-Marie the owner met us upon arrival and provided some housekeeping information re: the fire etc.Helveta is country style accommodation situated on a farm in a peaceful and pretty location. The unit is open plan with 4 beds (can sleep 5) in the living area along with a full kitchen and seperate bathroom. This arrangement suited us for a 2 night stay, however with 4 people all sleeping in the same room, it may not suit people wanting privacy or for those who have trouble sleeping away from home. Aside from that, we found it to be spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds and with everything we needed to cook a meal in the kitchen. Decor is bright and cheerful although a little retro and quirky in style. Great place for rest and relaxation and very good value for money. Breakfast is available upon request.

We stayed at Helvetia Swiss Retreat on 18th, 19th & 20th Dec 2012. We arrived at 5.30pm after a long day of sightseeing on our way through from Hobart. We recieved a warm welcome from Rose-Marie the owner who gave us information on things to do and see in the area. She also lit the fire for us and let us know that we should relax and feel free to look around the 5 acre property at our leisure. This holiday was for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and Rose-Marie and her husband Frank were even nice enough to leave us a beautiful Anniversary card in our unit, which we thought was a lovely thing to do. We thought that the unit was very clean and well accomodated with a comfortable double bed, full sized fridge, microwave and everything that was needed to self cater if required. We also had a few meals in Sheffield and at Tasmazia, which is a must see if you visit this beautiful area. We will definately be back to stay here again soon and i highly recommend it to anyone that wants a base that is close to many attractions like Mt Roland, Sheffield town of Murals, Tasmazia etc...

Helvetia Swiss Retreat was a delightful home base for our self-drive holiday in Northern Tasmania. We stayed there for three days and explored the rich array of spectacular natural features which are all within a drivable radius. On the road in, you get a grand view of Mount Roland. Nearby is Lake Barrington, Devils Gate Dam and at Mole Creek there is the Alum Cliffs, Trowunna Wildlife Park and limestone caves. About one hour away is Cradle Mountain and Liffey Falls (simply majestic). Three days was not long enough to see it all!||||This is boutique accommodation on a budget. While it is not modern, it is spotless, has all the comforts of home and is brimming with retro charm plus it has a wonderful wood-fire heater to make it a year-round possibility. At less than half the price of everything else we could find within reach of Cradle Mountain, we feel lucky to have found Helvetia and we were hesitant to share our discovery but we think it does deserve more recognition on the Internet.||||Absolutely private: it feels like it is just you, sheep in the paddock and the mountains in the distance. There is one other unit which you share an entrance with, but you don’t even notice when they are there.||||For meals, you can stock up at the Sheffield Supermarket and then self cater using the full kitchen. You could easily not leave for days-on-end and just enjoy the solitude. There are other culinary options: Sheffield has two bakeries, an old pub and one or two take-away and pizza places, nothing is really amazing. Further afield there is a honey farm at Chudleigh, more cafes in Deloraine, and the Elizabeth Town Cafe, well worth visiting at any time of the day.||||Helvetia would only suit travellers with a car. It is on a farm, 5-10 minutes from the small town of Sheffield and is entered via an unsealed driveway. It is configured as a studio with the kitchen, dining, lounge and beds all in one big room. It has one double (not queen-size) bed and two singles which means it would be best for a couple or a very small family who can survive without privacy from one-another. Budget honeymooners should consider it. A small group of friends looking for backpacker accommodation would also love it. However, it would not be ideal for two couples unless they were all very close! The farm animals are friendly and can come up to the window at night and rub on it, which we loved but others may not. The retreat’s manager lives 100 metres away in a separate farm house and doesn’t bother you except to light the fire for you in the evening. This is a description of the left side unit and I don’t know if the one on the right is identical or not. The interior photos on the website are perfectly realistic so I haven't taken any.

We stayed at this property in January 2016. It is nicely located close to Devonport and Craddle Mountain. The accommodation is clean and well looked after. The host Rose-Marie gave us a great welcome and explained what we could do around. It is a great area to explore around close to Cradle Mountain.

Although clean, beds hard, op shop linen. A few litres of drinking water would be appreciated as the tap water is to be boiled first. The title of "retreat"is a little misleading. Cabin would be more apt.
