My wife Janet and I just spent 2 nights staying at Hamlet Downs with hosts Trish and Steve. what a wonderful experience! We had driven from Sydney, used the Spirit of Tasmania, and stayed in Stanley and Strahan before driving down to the Upper Derwent. The accommodation was excellent. Steve gave us a farm tour to start with in his Moke complete with the stray lamb that accompanies him at all times when feeding all the animals. Fed the sheep, the llamas and the pigs. The rooms were beautifully warm with the wood burner going, and very comfortable. first night we ate a very tasty chicken curry that was prepacked and placed in the fridge. We heated it up in the microwave and it was delicious especially when sprinkled with some "Burma in ya belly" flakes - one of trish's specialities. We hiked around the adjacent Mt Field National park the next day visiting Russel Falls and Horseshoe Falls before the rain set in and curtailed any further walking. Relaxed in afternoon playing records on their sound system and then had a marvellous 2 course meal delivered to the table - mains were so well cooked and very tasty - not too spicy, but just enough - easily the best food we ate in 3 weeks in Tasmania. Followed by affogato - yum.|We thoroughly recommend this accommodation to anyone doing a similar trip to us or just wanting to spend a weekend away from Hobart. well done guys and bet wishes for more ribbons in the future.

Perfect location for a little family getaway. We stayed the weekend and had a walk @ Mt Field which is a short drive away.
Our accommodation was clean, cosy and fully equipped so it was easy preparing meals for our little one. The Burmese feast is a must try. The hosts are amazing and welcoming and funny too!
The bonus farm tour with Reggie 🐑 made our day!

Our recent stay at Hamlet Downs was in the Country Hideaway and we loved it! The location close to Mt Field National Park was perfect for us to explore and do the walks. The farm stay experience was just how we hoped it would be with Trish and Steve being the perfect hosts. Steve showed us around the farm, and we got to meet quite a few of the menagerie plus learn about farming in Tassie. Trish is a great chef, and we enjoyed her tasty, hand delivered meals for dinner and a breakfast to keep us going all day when we headed off. The farmhouse is decorated really nicely and everything you need is there. We will stay again if we have another opportunity to visit beautiful Tasmania!

Steve and Trish are great hosts, friendly and helpful. Plus, gourmet meals delivered to your suite. Loved the Tasmanian seafood chowder. Hamlet Downs is in a great location. Easy access to Mt Field, Derwent Bridge and Hobart.|Trish and Steve were extra helpful when we left some belongings behind. They helped locate them and went above and beyond to get them back to us, keeping us up to date. Highly recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, we had the house, which was set apart and very quiet within a lovely rural setting. |Trish and Steve are wonderful hosts, very accommodating.||We had dinner on one night and it was delicious, as well as breakfast both mornings, again very yummy. Highly recommend the food.||Was a good location for access to the nearby Russell Falls and good hiking.||There are resident platypuses.

Easily the best place we have stayed in our 3 weeks in Tassie.
Quiet, clean and beautiful country cottage.
The food both breakfast and dinners are next level and very generous portions.
The stars at night are so clear.
We even seen Percy the Platypus in the Dam.

Out in the country, nice a quiet and a beautiful setting. Only about 10 minutes down to Mt Field National Park, and another 10 or so to Maydena.||Comfortable accomodation and bed. Great breakfast, if you are a breakfast person. They also do dinners, however we being pretty indecisive decided to do other options as we did not know how our day was going to conclude.||Peaceful, with a resident crow, that tells you when he (or she) is wanting breakfast also. Waiting every morning in hope. Watch your coffee and biscuits as well, as he also loves those and will quite happily feed from your hand.||Definitely worth a stay and somewhere we will most likley go back to when we are in that area again.

We had a great time here and felt complete peace and tranquility in a magical setting. Steve and Trish offer generous hospitality and great food (served to your room). Steve even invited us to tag along with him at feeding time and was open to lots of questions. Along with the fab food, the gorgeous farm and well maintained country garden, complete with friendly chickens and lots of sitting areas really made the whole stay wonderful. The accommodation itself would benefit from an update and was a little dusty.
