The family room suited us well on this unexpected stay, it was spacious and across the hallway from a unisex bathroom. The staff were friendly, and it was good value. Minimal noise from the sportsbar downstairs but the neon sign outside our window did give an all night long glow. Easy access to the airport and Rockdale Station just across the road as well.

What a horrific stay it was at this place. I tried to request to cancel the booking without being charged the full price of the stay and sent the cancellatiom request about an hour after I booked but no response. I then tried to call them and ask if I could speak to the manager/owner about the cancellation request but they kept saying that management weren't able to deal with it and I had to wait for the owner/head office to respond. I told them I needed a response asap and only booked with them due to another booking/accommodation I had that fell through last minute from plumbing issues, and wanted to cancel my booking with Grand Hotel because the other place contacted back saying plumbing was fixed. Grand Hotel never responded after multiple attempts of contacting them and we couldn't afford to book elsewhere so had no choice but to go. We got there and the entire place smelt like stale cigarrette. The room was over 30 degrees, no aircon, ceiling fan made zero difference (the room had high ceilings), it didn't spin very fast at all and they did not specify that they didn't have aircon in their description on booking.com. The room was also situated in direct sunlight so it was just stinking hot with a stale smell. The staff even admitted that only 4 or 5 of the rooms have aircon and it was unkown as to why the rest didn't. The windows opened all the way up with no safety/fall protection whatsoever from the top floor so wouldn't recommend children staying there at all. They then said they could supply us with a pedestal fan, and with no surprise it didn't pivot or work properly. It was a small floor sitting one that was only about 30cm tall so we had to put it on a chair for it to cool us down. Also because it didn't pivot, it wasn't able to cool all 4 of us. It was slightly broken too as it kept tilting towards the ceiling/pointing straight up. I kept trying to ask staff if there was any way to contact head office such as phone number or email but they said the emails had to go through them first and then they send it to head office. Again, with no surprise, head office said I needed to file a complaint through booking.com and they weren't able to do anything about it. To top it off, went to use the showers and they are either just straight cold or the temperature is temperamental and doesn't stay consistent/changes from hot to cold. There were also a bunch of stains on the duvets and sofa chairs in the room. I have honestly never stayed somewhere so horribly managed and dirty. The only thing good is the location/how close is it to the city but definitely not somewhere you would want to ever stay. Plenty of other options with a great location. 0/10 would not recommend.

We arrived and didn’t know where to check in? |There is no signage either. Check in happened to be at the bar which I found to be tasteless! Especially as a family with small children|There needs to be a better location for check in even if a hole in the wall to the entrance hallway was installed. |There were 2 other people who looked lost with suitcases and we directed them to the bar. It’s very intimidating having to walk through a bar full of intoxicated people and wrangle 2 small children away from pool table in use. ||There needs to be a welcoming pamphlet or book for your guest that is located inside the room. This is very cheap to implement. ||The room was underwhelming as if they took a character building and painted it to look like a modern sleek hotel which didn’t work for the high ceiling it actually created lots of shadow and made to room feel pale & drained - ||light shades need cleaning urgently!! ||We were cold and had no other blankets on offer ,So we slept in clothing to keep warm. ||There is a huge light screen outside the room window that is constant and we found so unbelievable that we had to laugh. ||Traffic is constant it does not die down . ||Close to lots of shops , lots of facilities downstairs overall cheap stop over while waiting for a car. |The staff we helpful and let us keep our pram in the office instead of lugging it up 2 flights of stairs. |So for a family with small children - I would not recommend spending a lot of time here.

This place is cosy for a single person. Though it seems confined and small, it was comfortable. Shared showers and toilets. The Grand seems to give the meaning to its original setting. Must have a lot of stories to tell. However, it's in a great spot being close to all amenities, night spots, restaurants and fast food outlets. And train station about 100 metres away.

I ordered a wagyu steak and couscous for $42. I got cheap roast beef sliced up with something much more like lentils than cous cous and a little French mustard. The waiter didn't seem to understand basic English. When I ordered a wagyu steak he offered me a $16 steak sandwich. When I said I was very disappointed with the meal, he didn't seem to understand at all. I will not visit again.

Nice clean room with sink, running water, air con, tv, fridge and clean shared bathroom
Walking distance to trains, buses, restaurants, shopping centre and bottle shops
Would recommend
