Gilligan's Bar - Cairns City, Queensland

By far the worst hostel of my entire trip to Australia. Sleeping here is not possible. It's all about partying all the time, there's shouting in the corridor, nobody cares about a good night's sleep and the staff basically don't care. Two of the staff there were very friendly towards me, so I get one star for that, the others were super unfriendly - they put on a smile at the front, but nobody really cares. I would particularly like to mention a Leo/Liam/whatever. He knew that I was lying in bed with a high temperature and chills, told me to drink a lot and sleep well - and then checked two more people into the room at 2am (which was great, as everyone in the room didn't leave to party until around 1.30am, so it was quiet for a while). The way he communicated this on the phone was super cheeky and rude. Someone definitely doesn't know how to deal with guests and likes to overreact.
I couldn't sleep for more than 2 hours all night, someone always started partying in the room or switching on the lights. The dining area is often very dirty, the air conditioning so cold that you can only get sick. For anyone who wants to party for 5 nights straight, this is exactly the right hostel. Everyone else should look for an alternative.

Excellent stay start to finish, however the best part of the week was Ross, who worked in happy travels connected to the hostel.He was kind helpful and loved having a laugh. Ross sat us down on our first day and helped us organise our week in Cairns also moved some stuff we had already booked to fit everything in. He accepted what activities we wanted to do and planned and booked them for us perfectly making sure we still had some free time while staying in Gilligan’s . He would always smile and say hello to us when passing by and asking us how we found our activities. He was very interested in our opinions. He was just great.

Typical tourist club. It’s a decent club with a large crowd but more of a backpacker/20 something vibe. If you are into large crowds and backpackers/tourists this is definitely the spot. Just wasn’t for us. I was reluctant to give such a low review, however it’s just our feeling. We went a few nights just to make sure we could give an honest review.

Quite impressive way to spin the review. At least the reply to our honest review is much better than the experience we witnessed. Money well spent on the individual or business hired to reply to reviews.

Have stayed twice now. The female only rooms themselves are pretty spacious. The rooms on club side are obviously very loud but we requested a quiet room so the second stay was much nicer. Good kitchens, cleaned a few times a day. And the bar serves pretty good food

We were just dancing, when suddenly security told my friend to leave. reason was they thought my friend was to drunk. Even tough he acted,talked and walked normally. I had the exact same amount of drinks and we were doing the exact same thing, but i was allowed to stay.

Best hostel ever in Cairns. I may not be a big party person as I used to but still met some amazing people from Wild wild west and ladies night. Booked 2N as i had Wed Thu Fri off work. Staff were helpful.. Bonni helped with me Green Island Day trip. Not gonna lie for a bloke thats shy made some decent friends thought i was gonna make none. Highlight was my last few hours in the pool area relaxing before my flight and just enjoying my last few moments before heading back to Sydney. Best hostel in Cairns

This spot is ideal for having fun with your friends while travelling. My friends and I stayed in a spacious private hotel room here. It is was very clean with a nice sized balcony, sound proof room and good facilities. It is good value for money in terms of price, in a prime location. ||It is situated in a central location in Cairns and within walking distance to all main areas. Ross and the team at Gilligans Travel were great as they really helped us with booking our scuba/snorkel trip, the Uncle Brien's Cape Tribulation tour and the hotel rooms. There is entertainment in the bar at the hotel each night also so there is a buzzing atmosphere.||I would recommend this place especially the value for money with the private hotel room.

Gilligan’s is like the party section of Bali but right here in Australia! If you’re looking for a great night out with good drinks, good food, and an unbeatable atmosphere, this is the place to be. It’s super affordable, so it’s great bang for buck, and you’re guaranteed a fun time.

The vibes are amazing, the crowd is lively, and the staff are awesome. Do yourself a favour and grab a Kryptonite drink while you’re there – it’s a game-changer. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a good party and great memories!
