I didn't have the best stay at Freedom. I was there for 3 nights and opted for a private room upgrade. It seems that the private rooms are in the old block which as you approach seems like a building site. The pavement surface leading up to the block entrance was so broken, bumpy and uneven it was near impossible to roll my suitcase on it. I then did my back in (which is already bad) lugging it up to the top floor as there was no lift.

The room itself had a nice balcony with a good view and was perfectly functional. I appreciated the toiletries and access to a fridge plus teas and coffees.

There were no blankets however and only one sheet on the bed so I got chilly at night. Also the bathroom was a wet room so everything got wet with no shelves or rails to put my things and towels on.

The wifi didn't work when I arrived and others in my group reported it not working for them too. When I raised this with the front desk they initially said there 'wasn't any more they could do to be honest' until I believe a more senior colleague came along and gave me an alternative connection so clearly there was another option(!) Good customer service is all about offering an apology and a solution...

Paying $160/night I expected more to be honest.

Great location opposite bus stop and easy place to do K’Gari as Dingos tour starts here. Staff were super friendly and helpful and let me use their phone. Rooms were very basic, only one power outlet per room, music blasting till late and it just felt quite dirty.

Nice hostel - good location, fully equipped kitchen with walk-in fridge and clean pool with lots of subbed as well as free pancakes every morning. Room was okay - the aircon worked well although sharing the one ensuite bathroom between 8 people is quite inconvenient. |The main drawback of this hostel is that the WiFi does not work at all and there is little service in Rainbow Beach which is extremely annoying.

Great location, right across from the Greyhound bus stop—super convenient for the Dingo tour! The hostel has a nice pool, and the 8-bed dorm I stayed in was spacious. While there were no lockers, there was plenty of space for personal belongings. I also loved the private bathrooms, shared only among the 8 people in the room. And the fridge here is amazing—lots of space for all guests! I’m not a party person, but this place is just right for me. It gets really quiet after about 10 or 11 PM, which is perfect for a peaceful night.

I think people need to ignore the old reviews for this place

Freedom has had a major face lift over the past year and was a great stay. The rooms still need a touch of love around the edges but definitely not worth the 1 and 2 star reviews that haunt this place. The pool area is nice and spacious with lots of places to reside with pool side beds, bean bags and pool loungers.

Although we didn’t cook the kitchen looked clean and was cleaned daily. The bar opened at 4pm which felt late for a hostel but they offered a good selection of drinks with a happy hour every day of cocktails, beers and wines

All the staff are very helpful and Dingos Kgari tour is based in site so if you are doing the Dingo tour it makes most sense to stay here

I stayed here for 2 nights and really liked it.

The kitchen is kept clean and the equipment, especially the pans seemed pretty new.
There’s enough storage room for dry ingredients and the fridge is huge as well.

The bathroom was cleaned every day and the rooms were clean as well.

Staff was very friendly and the new pool was amazing.

Centrally located, lovely pool area and affordable bar. Kitchen was very well kept and staff were always super friendly. Stayed in 2 rooms at this hostel, one was one the smaller side but still clean and the other with a balcony which was super spacious. But overall a outstanding stay

Disappointed with Breakfast and Kitchen Access

Our stay at this hostel (January 12–13, 2025) was disappointing. We were promised pancakes for breakfast between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m., but no staff showed up, and no food was provided. Even worse, we had no access to the kitchen—everything was locked, and we couldn't even prepare our own food.

As a result, we had to leave for our tour at 7:00 a.m. without breakfast, leaving
behind all our groceries. This was frustrating and unacceptable. If you rely on early breakfast or kitchen access, be aware that you might not get what is promised.

We also confronted the hotel with this and wrote a complaint. We received no response.
