Opinions and Reviews

This company has 1069 reviews on Google My Business with an average opinion of 4.1/5. Many guests praise the resort for its excellent rooms, which offer enough space and are spotlessly clean. The staff at Discovery Resorts - Wilpena Pound are also highly regarded for their friendliness and helpfulness.

One of the standout features of this resort is its restaurant. Despite its remote location, the dining options are more than reasonable, with a lovely choice of meals that are well-prepared, well-cooked, and delightful to eat. This is a welcome respite from the nearby cafes and pubs that often only serve deep-fried schnitties and goon bag salads.

The Flinders Ranges and surrounding area offer fantastic scenery, walks, and drives, making this resort an ideal base for exploring the region. Guests can enjoy the abundance of natural beauty, while still having access to comfortable accommodations and amenities.

Rooms are excellent. Enough space and spotlessly clean. All staff friendly and helpful. But the best thing after eating in cafes and pubs that can only manage deep fried schnitties and goon bag salads is the restaurant. Your not paying food court prices but you do get a lovely choice of meals well prepared, well cooked and delightful to eat. Despite the remote location the meals and drinks are more than reasonable. The scenery, walks and drives are fantastic do your own homework on that the resort is a great base.

Staff were generally friendly and willing to help, and we enjoyed the bushwalking trails.
But that’s where the positives end.

The worst part was the restaurant.
It was highly overpriced for stringy, tough steaks and greasy potatoes—and there was no table service.
The biggest issue: we found insects in our food. One was cooked and lodged between slices of meat; the other was alive and crawling inside a salad.
It was a truly distressing experience, although the staff did try to rectify the situation.

As for the room:
Booking.com stated that the Deluxe Room had a bathtub, but upon arrival, we were told no rooms had one.
There’s no internet in the rooms—only in public areas—and the connection was quite weak.

Room cleanliness could have been better, especially for the premium price.
The queen bed was firmer than the single beds, and a noisy fridge was oddly placed between the two singles, making them inconvenient to use.
The shower also lacked consistent hot water, though thankfully the weather was warm.

Our Deluxe Room was adjoined to another by an internal door, and the poor soundproofing made it easy to hear our neighbors.

Overall, aside from its location in the national park and the access to bushwalking trails, our experience was deeply disappointing and far below expectations.

Staying at Wilpena Pound Discovery Resort was an incredible experience. Waking up in the safari tent and seeing the magnificent mountains each morning was pure magic. The resort is surrounded by stunning nature, perfect for hiking and exploring. Climbing St Mary Peak was a challenge, but the views from the summit were absolutely breathtaking.

I loved learning about the early European settlers' history and the deep cultural connection of the Adnyamathanha people, the Traditional Owners of the land. Their stories made the landscape even more meaningful.

Wilpena Pound is a place where nature, adventure, and history come together beautifully. Highly recommended for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants a real outback experience!

We stayed in one of the Brachina rooms at the 'resort' for 3 nights.|To be honest, the 'resort' is really a motel with an attached limited restaurant. |The room was a good size, but poorly maintained - the bathroom fan grill was filthy, the external door didn't securely lock, the louvre window had a teaspoon inserted as a makeshift lock, the shower was abysmal and the mattress required replacement. We were not expecting a 5 star resort, but this doesn't really qualify as a resort. |We sensed apathy amongst the staff and no one seems to be striving to make this a great experience. It's just so average - which is a pity given the outstanding location. |It feels like the staff just come to work, do their 'jobs', go back to their huts and then do the same thing the next day. There's no passion. |As others have mentioned, it's also expensive. If there was competition, you'd never be able to command these prices for such an average facility. I think this is where the apathy comes in - there's no competition, incentive or need to make the resort better. Very sad.

My wife and I stayed in the caravan park, but went to the resort restaurant for dinner to celebrate my birthday. There was a nice atmosphere, the staff were great, and the food. Because the staff knew it was my birthday, they brought my dessert out with a candle, and sang Happy Birthday, which I thought was great. A good night.

We stayed in glaming tent, which was very comfortable.
The restaurant offered a very good breakfast & dinner excellent menu at reasonable cost. Food was fresh, well presented & delicious ( except egg plant ... under cooked & bitter). Something for everybody on the alcohol list. Staff able to advise re hiking. All staff helpful, friendly & went the extra mile.
We had a great stay. 100% recommend

Camped 3 nights in an unpowered site - a perfect base for hiking and exploring the Flinders. The toilets and amenities in the campground are excellent. The staff at the visitor centre and in the restaurant were really helpful and pleasant. Food at the restaurant was very tasty although maybe a little overpriced (although given the remoteness of the location you'd expect to pay a bit more). I'll be back.

Stayed at Discovery Parks Campground. |Great location inside Ikara NP but the camping amenities are poor. |The bathrooms were dirty, with paint peeling off the walls and very smelly. |There were ample electric BBQs, but nothing available to clean them, hence many were unusable. |The camp kitchen was clean but tiny for the size of the campground. A single fridge was chockablock full, and the power went out one day while we were there. There was also a pungent septic tank smell around the kitchen. |Fire places near many of the camp sites was a nice touch. Bring your own firewood. |Close to trailhead for many varied walks. Need a lot of water as it’s hot and dry (in April).
